Webasto Auxiliary Heater - customizing

Hi @oldiebut goodie. Do you know if the T100 HTM / TC4 is compatible with the VW firmware? Or does it need special Webasto firmware loaded onto the heater?
I just installed the T91 remote and Telestart, but like the idea of being able to control the heater from my phone as well.

T91 max time is 120 minutes, cannot be increased over that.
T100 HTM max time is C5 which isn't converted to minutes in any documentation! ( But is 120 mins ) You have an indication of the fact that the heater is operating in the display.

Timing is all dealt with by the receiver not the heater.
Using the T100 HTM is a lot more preferable to using the blind remotes ( T60 - T91) and satisfies the need for yet another gadget. I am surprised that everyone is still plugging away with the old ones for their heaters. I wouldn't be without mine although it doesn't get much use. I might have fitted a Thermocall TC4 if I had a mobile phone!

In the installation instructions they say that function cannot be guaranteed! If you have a W-bus connection it should work provided VW hasn't blocked the signal at the ecu with their own coding. It would take someone other than me to test - I only work on the air heaters anyway.
I have sold the only TC4 system that I had coupled with an air heater but as I have not got a OEM water heater or mobile phone/sim card even I couldn't test what would work and what wouldn't.
I much prefer to see a separate standalone heater installation from the start rather than having it all tied in to the vehicle's system as it is far more versatile then and you then don't have all that messing around with VCDS or others.

You say that you have added the T91 Telestart - which one have you added as there are 3 versions, 12v, W-bus or LIN-bus?

It’s the OEM ersion. I think it’s LIN-bus, but not 100% sure...

My quick bit of googling suggests that W-bus is a priority Webasto protocol, which is not compatible with the open LIN-bus protocol?

I am not so sure either - this advert that I turned up says it is W-bus for the 3Q0963513 version. The more that I read of the various Telestarts being applied to OEM heaters the less the certainty that such and such a Telestart will not work - this has been on various marques not just VW. I have read of the same remote and receiver both working and not working correctly on different identical OEM heaters so it does appear to be very hit or miss as to what actually works.
If yours is set up with W-bus already you should be good to go with anything else W-bus.

I have fitted my heat exchanger at the back today and wired up the telestart.
I will attempt thecsoftware side on Thursday when I am off work BUT I have gone through everything and I do not understand the webasto firmware update.

How do you do the firmware update. You are all far more clued up on this then me. I have VCDS and can work that but there is no mention of flashing the firmware with vcds and no one has shown how to do it in vcds.
I only have vcds.
Please help a dumb guy out please.

If you are only swapping the .PRN data file it is easy enough over W-Bus with the WTT 2.16 engineering mode version program. 30 seconds to program. Can't do anything much more though.

I do have one of these I brought ages ago but there is no info as to how or what I do with it or where I plug it in. I dont seem to have the right/same cable as the one below (have attatched what mine looks like) or I have no idea where it plugs into.

That is their version of a W-Bus adaptor dongle - you should be able to use the WTT program to change the .PRN data file with that, I say should but I have never used one as I use the genuine Webasto gear.
Find your W-Bus in the connector and give it a try. W-Bus isn't just for air heaters, I am using it at the moment on a Webasto Dual Top water heater.
