What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Last week I fixed the mirror.

Aftermarket glass which seems fine and was about 13 quid;

OEM lower cap, about 20 pounds;

And aftermarket top cap from Ebay, again 20 odd. I presume 3D printed, reasonable colour match but you can tell if you look closely.

Not sure if it is the poorly fitting top cap or damage to the internals but it didn't go smoothly, it doesn't sit quite right and isn't fixed in properly, but it's good enough.

Today was the DRL.

I managed to find a brand new OEM RHS H7 from Deutschparts, with some damage but functional. A bargain, and only a tiny chip off the extreme corner is visible once fitted.

I wouldn't have a hope in hell of soldering the new DRL holder on to my older H7, so this was my only option.

Took the opportunity to install Twenty20 LEDs.

Picture shows the new LED on driver side, and Maruta whiter halogen DRL on the other.

Following advice on Andy Smee's excellent Guide thread, I didn't fully remove the bumper and was able to swap the headlight, bit fiddly but doable.

The new one looks really shiny compared to the old! Starting looking for a LHS one now in case the DRL holder on that side also fails.

I should have taken the bumper off anyway, as it was impossible to fit the LED into the LHS H7, with the holder, presumably because it was too long.

So grill and bumper undone on the other side, light out, managed to get the LED DRL installed *without* the lever thingy, test fitted and of course didn't work, so reversed the LED and it worked. Hoorah!

Connected up the DRL lever thingy, light in, quick check, not working! Started swearing under my breath until I remembered I hadn't plugged the loom in, Hoorah! Two LED DRLs!!

Took the opportunity to replace all the grill and wheel arch trim clips with new ones that have been sat in the garage for 3 1/2 years after I fitted these H7s and trashed half of the clips.

Changed out my "red" upper grill trims first fitted in April 2020 that had turned an uncool version of cloudy pink:

An easy 5 minute job.
Took longer to get the bucket of soapy water & hosepipe ready, than to detrim & refit :D
Good to go now, for another 4 years.

After changing the upper 2 red grill trims last month, I decided the old lower red grill trims needed replacing, as the 3 pieces were also definitely not as bright red when 1st fitted a few years ago.
But, I'm not 100% happy the 2 reds are the same shade.

The top 2 piece grill trim seems more of an orange shade of red, than the full blown redness of the bottom 3 piece trim set.
Maybe it's just me...
I'll sleep on it & look again in the morning. :(
Slept on it last night - looked at them again this morning - asked the neighbours for their opinion & they agreed, whilst both were red, they weren't the same red.
Bit the bullet..

Bought some more, but at the same time, from the same company.
The others will be taken off & kept as "spares"
Probably end up on this list:

Or sold to another forum member at an upcoming Forum meet for 1/2 the price I paid!! :D

A tenner then?!

Do they make a big difference?
Got a link ?

I had some "points" from previous purchases to make these cheaper for me. Make sure you fit them in the right place and yes, makes a big difference. Door shuts much quieter, like a car rather than a van and road noise is slightly reduced. Just for the sound of the door closing I'm happy with the price I paid and 10 mins work.

Can you fit a warm white (yellow) set of leds, rather than the bright white as you have now?
I've been looking at similar myself, but not found anything running 5v / 12v I'm 100% happy with yet.
Alternatively fit red LEDs as they won't affect your darn vision as much.

Mind you, you may get folks knocking on your door if you leave them on.... ;)

Got my front tyres changed from 275/40/20 to Michelin Cross Climates 265/40/20, due to the 275's rubbing on full.
Put 1 of the 275's on my new 20" spare wheel. Just have to carry the spare in the van until I can source a suitable carrier system out.
