What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Fitted the Van-X glovebox and rear footwell lights (from @saxoboy) within bespoke seat base from Hexa ply to treat rear seat passengers with the same illumination as front. Passenger (left) side has larger storage recess. Drivers (left side) has diesel heater outlet, so recess only serves to give depth for light. Bonus is that it also lights up the consumer unit.

Couple of other pieces of Hexa ply oiled and drying in friends workshop, ready for assembly (hopefully tomorrow). Anyone guess what they're for/where they're going?

Lamp error warning light came on when I flashed someone who undertook me then cut in front. Pulled onto services, had sausage bap, tested all lights, error cleared, karma restored.

@Pewt. Out of interest, how much work is it to take the rear bumper off?
@Ayjay its simple ….2 bolts in the rear arches, pop the covers off under the rear lights and remove the plastic rivets and 2 plastic rivets underneath. Pull out either said and pull it back…clips make a bit of a pop but it’s a 10 minute job

@Pewt - Humour me please - how do you get those rear plastic covers off (the ones under the lights). I ask as I've had a trim tool behind them and 'jiggled a bit' but although there's movement, there's also no sign of either coming off without using more strength that I'm willing to as I don't want to break anything. Sorry for the idiot questions.

The lights need to come off first, two screws and then they lift off. There are then two trim clips that need to be popped off the top of each panel that will allow the covers to be lifted off

@airhoguk . @Pewt. Even for an idiot like me that sounds simple enough but are there any potential pratfalls that I need to be aware of? I'm asking as there's a bit of up/down movement at the passenger side of the bumper which I'm hoping is due to a couple of broken clips rather than anything more sinister as it's a near new bumper. I reckon somebody gave us a gentle nudge in a car park during our recent road trip in France! Thanks in advance.

Fitted the new wheels and tyres!

Did a test drive of multiple conditions and I was half expecting it to be rubbing loads, but... Barely anything!! Some at the front on full lock, and once in 30 miles over a big wallowy bump, some very light rubbing at the top.

Otherwise, all fine! By the way, that's 245/65R17's at 390mm ride height at the front, or 70mm lowered than stock!

I think the profile of the falken wildpeak helps, they're very rounded on the shoulders - a BFG K02 with it's much squarer profile would rub a lot more. Also my mega firm suspension helps with there being not much suspension travel! The tyres have maybe reduce 5-10% of the harshness, not a lot, if any.

Speedo is 2mph out at 50 - 48mph on cruise equals 50mph GPS. On the old wheels 52mph would equate to 50mph. So it's 6-7% different which is as expected.

I’m sure it’ll be fine…. if it ‘catches’ on the arch liner it’ll only be very quick…. mine does the same from time to time because I haven’t done the arch liner screw mod, but it doesn’t bother me too much. If it ain’t rubbin’ you ain’t dubbin’!

As you said, very little catching! Perfectly fine for the trip up to CRS on Wednesday/Thursday to get my suspension upgraded!

Oh and did the pressure trick someone on here posted, 46psi cold, after 40 mins driving up to 49psi so that's almost bang on.

Yeah sounds like a broken clip mate ....just ease it away from the body You will need to lower the spare wheel to get access to one of the strap clips underneath. You are only 45minuts from me so if you wanted to to come my way i'd be happy to help buddy

Keep it that low, looks superb!

Tempting, but the suspension is currently rock hard and as harsh as anything I've driven, the new tyres have very, very slightly improved this but it's still way too firm.

If went lower than standard but higher than it currently is, with actual comfortable suspension, I think it would rub more as there would be more travel than it currently has. It's only because it's hard as hell that it's not rubbing.

So, upwards it is! Comfort is the number 1 priority.

So what are you having fitted @CRS Performance ?

Pretty much the gold standard - Koni Special Active Shocks, std springs, and possibly 25mm lift spacers. Then H&R anti roll bars - hopefully these will reign in any roll with the van going about 90mm higher than it currently is!

I'll have extra weight up top in the form of a roof rack too.

Oh and rear discs and pads. I had a quick look while I had the wheels off today and there's about 5mm of pad left so probably another couple of thousand miles - but I've got three weeks off in late September and will probably do a euro trip of 1500-2000 miles so I'd rather not get down to the metal on the trip!

Just looking at how much space there is between the tyre and the arch liner where it rubbed once - I reckon there's about an inch, maybe 1.5inches. which means I've basically got 1.5inches or less usable travel on the front. Which is why it feels rock hard!

Sounds good…. Steve’ll look after you. I totally understand and appreciate your priority of comfort…. it’s something I’m possibly thinking about for the future!?

Yeah it's just not nice to drive at the moment on anything but a dead smooth motorway! Jarring is a mild way of putting it! Hopefully Steve can make me nice and soft!
