What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Thanks for the reply. I have done the doors, door cards and scuttle also. Just trying to add the little percentages as they all make a big difference combined.

I'd say it took me about an hour and a half to do one side. Part of that was faffing around with the stupid plastic clip that broke - it might be quicker if you take the wheel off but I'm on a slight slope so I'm always nervy of taking the wheel off if I don't have to.

Have you added the extra door seals?
I used this one:

I did this first and was actually quite impressed, all add up though.

Not as exciting as some - fitted Devonport wheels to replace my huge 20 inch wheels (well BRMS did - great service and staff).

Van feels much happier, but I do only have a 102 BHP.

V nice. I'm in the market for some devonports but finding some near to me in good condition cheaply is proving difficult. Not fussed on tyres as I'm planning to change them. I think I'll just have to accept some kerbing or pay more.

Is yours lowered?

Hi nonub, I don’t know, but in the photo it does look lower (but I bought it as it was and no expert). To my eye since changing wheels it does look a bit lower but might be an optical ilusion - it is a T28 fully converted so heavy full of camper stuff. (before picture attached). Guessing the wheels are smaller so makes it a bit lower.

looking at tyre size comparison it has dropped it by 1.5 inch compare to old tyres.

Sound deadening the doors and fitting the extra seals made a big difference. It's a bit sad but I smile every time the door thuds shut. The scuttle was a smaller differences and I imagine this will have less of an impact as well but they add up to a big difference. I don't regret doing any of them.

For the doors I loosened the inner door skin and got as much 2mm deadening as I could on the outer door panel, then coated the inner in as much as I thought was realistically going to make a difference then 20mm and 10mm foam on the door cards.

:slow rofl:

This made me smile, at least i know im not the only one!!
I did all the outer skin with dodo deadn, then another full coverage with 10mm Thermo pro on the outer door skin, the inner again fully stripped and covered in deadn with the door card covered with a 25mm acoustic foam. Needless to say the door closing is a very satisfying "thud" now.

The rest of the van(up front at least), was completely stripped and covered the floor, wheel arches, steps & as high up behind the dash as i could without removing it (Yes i got a bit carried away:oops:). But it made a massive difference. Next on the list is the scuttle and the wheel arches from the outside. (hence very curious how you got on ;-) )

I will get round to measuring the noise levels again (i recorded the DB at 70mph before i started converting the van..... it was loud!!

Wow sounds very thorough is be interested in the measurement!

Finished completely rewiring the leisure electrics thanks to the mess made by the converters

Fitted fuses which said converters didn’t seem to think necessary

Fitted a proper connection to chassis in the best place I could find to replace the self tapping screw fitted by the converter

Replaced the 100A leisure batteries, one of which was leaking thanks to damage caused by the converter.

Installed 160AH Roamer LiFePo battery

Fitted a battery isolator switch, again not deemed necessary by the converter

Fitted a Victron IP22 12/20 mains charger to replace the unsuitable PMS3 charger

It was getting too dark to do a proper test & power the battery but I know there’s no shorts :)

Made a foil insulation pop top cover. Triple checked the dimensions so I'm confident it'll fit, but need to wait for the missus to be home before I do a test fit.
I made one of these recently.

To be fair as long as there isn't strong wind I can put it up by myself in a few minutes. Really pleased with it.

Going to Belgium next week so I'll give it a longer test than the 2 nights we've tried so far.

Have you nnoticd much difference with this mate?
I've now done both sides and driven a bit more. Definitely an improvement there. I'm not noticing the road noise as much so I'd say definitely worth doing if you've got a spare few hours.

Lots of rattling in the van so I still think I'm going to try wider softer tyres to make for a smoother ride but I'm very happy with the sound deadening I've done.
