What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Has anyone come up with a design to fit up-rated struts similar to Uber bus? I'm trying to avoid spending £315.

THQ ones aren't powerful enough for my spare wheel, ladder and innards...

I think I need about 2000N on each side.

SGS engineering are very helpful, and they'll have all the bits.
My problem is I won't know the exact length of strut needed until I fit the new brackets I'll need.
If I do it myself, I'll be saving £200!

I've plenty of sheet metal off-cuts. The plan is to weld fixings to the sheet metal then bolt and rivet them in.

I couldn't tell you, as it came part-converted, unfortunately. The only work they'd done was the bumpers (badly) and towbar removal.

I totally agree, re paint.

Someone bashed in that small panel below the filler cap and I had to strip it down, hammer it out, fill it and paint it. I paid top dollar for a tin of "RAC" paint, and it's way off. It would look neater if I'd just painted it black.
thanks for reply , i tried body colour from plate looked the same colour as the banner on this site for similar threads, then as you tried rac special colour and this was just as bad so prob try colour match at local paint shop as i want to do bumpers possibly a spoiler as well

I fitted an Autoterm Comfort Controller for my van diesel heater earlier - it replaced the Autoterm PU27 Controller fitted by the converter when I got the van and which I've never really been over-fond of (I've never thought the user interface to be particularly friendly!). Even for an idiot like me, it was a very simple job which only required unplugging the old one from the wiring loom, undoing two screws to take it off and replacing it with the new one after drilling two new holes (the old ones are hidden by the controller and the electrical connecters are identical). TBH it's not the giant leap forward that I had hoped for but it is better. On the basis that I bought it from Latvia at less than half the price that I've seen from UK suppliers, I'm not going to send it back though and on the plus side, it looks nicer than what it replaced. I'll be advertising the old PU27 controller on here in due course but, in the meantime, if anyone's interested PM me

Do you have a link for the Latvia supplier?

It was Autoterm on eBay a couple of weeks ago but when I went back to the listing just now it was no longer there. The cheapest that I can see on there at the moment is around £90 from Germany whereas mine was £56 (but £14 of that was shipping from Latvia). Maybe if I had posted when I first bought it they would still have been available but I waited until it arrived and I had got it fitted - sorry about that.

No probs. I’ll keep my eye on eBay.

I've come up with a solution using the existing lower bracket and reinforcing the stud for the lid - both with the bigger 16mm ball ends required.
It'll be £65 per side - a fraction of the cost of similar kits.
I'll post pics when it's done so others can save too!

@Bigsidavies. TBH, I'm not really convinced that it would be an upgrade over the PU27 worth paying £90 for - indeed, at this stage, i'm not altogether convinced it's worth the £56 that I paid but time might change my mind on that and I'm going to have another play with it later on. That said, I suspect it's because I upgraded from the PU27 and not the 'Simple' controller - I've never had one of those but a friend had one for a while and it was pretty primitive in comparison to either of the others. After a few uses and comparing it to the PU27 that I had at the time, he switched to one and was very happy with it.

Well, was well satisfied watching the pattern of rain streaks, stretching across and up the windscreen because of treating all windows mirrors lights to RainX. So today I bought 2 containers of RainX Windscreen Wash -20 and pored very nearly all of one container into the bottles windscreen wash container so that my child like fascination could continue.
