I agree with Tourashine, in that I doubt its the wheels. I am in North Manchester. Burnley isnt too far. I have a set of Devonports in the garage you can try to see if it make a difference before swapping out your wheels.

However I do think the mpg is a bit low. I have a 180 and at 65-70 on the motorway Im about 40mpg.
Over a take of fuel Im getting 35-37 ish mixed driving mainly a commute to work on the M60.

I'd be surprised if the wheels and remap have had such a dramatic effect...….Pendle have a (mostly) good reputation for remaps. For fear of awakening a previous thread, what fuel are you using? Before anyone jumps on me, and I'm not advocating its use but......I use shell v power diesel AND diesel rhino additive and cetane booster. Mine's a 150 manual kombi running on 16" claytons or 17" Devonports. I tend to cruise at about 60 mph @ approx. 1600rpm (I know, I know......I'm a right laugh but I blame an article I read by Jackie Stewart once upon a time!!)) on the A1 and I'm getting 50+ mpg. I find that when I go above 60mph, the economy falls off a cliff! Slip streaming also makes a HUGE difference......but not too close!! Remember, essentially you're driving a wardrobe on wheels so anything above 55mph to 60mph and the laws of aerodynamics will slap your legs! It does have an upside though......it's not real world but I did once see 70mpg and a range well in excess of 800 miles one very windy day on the A1 with a Southerly blowing right up my trumper......I'd have been in tears if I'd been heading south!!) Around town I'm getting mid 30's. I have to admit, I tend to drive as smoothly as possible and anticipate traffic conditions ahead. I'm bumping my gums now, but essentially mate, yours isn't great but if you've been around this forum for any length of time, you'll see there are huge inconsistencies in mpg. It's already been said that it IS an issue.....but I'd say you can probably improve on that with a few changes. Humour me......just back off a little on the motorway.....get tucked in behind an HGV......set the cruise (if appropriate), and see how much difference it makes. I'm not recommending tailgating for obvious reasons! Keep us posted.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the offer, where abouts are you? Would you sell your Davenport's?

Hi Im near Bury. I would sell them. However they could do with a refurb. This would be reflected in the price obviously and mean you could have a choice of colour ;)

Just back from a 3000 mile trip to southern Spain this weekend and my MPG was shocking. Same van, 180bhp SWB manual and average across the whole trip was 31mpg! Was literally just motorways too as went to drop belongings off and came straight back (after a sleep obviously).

I was expecting high thirties but the slightly higher motorway speeds over there along with the terrain over the mountains really killed that idea

Had the van weighed before I left and it was 2500kg full of fuel and I know it’s 2200kg full usually so can’t work out why it’s so bad. Not like it’s running round at max weight.

I’ve got a 150 bhp manual ..... local short journeys give me around 30 mpg, and cruising along motorways gives me 38 ish

I never drive mine hard and don’t trust the computer as it’s optimistic

21 mpg around town ....can understand this if in heavy town traffic a lot and reading the onboard computer ...

Hi guys,

A quick update, I changed my 20" wheels for standard 16" steeleys to experiment and the results were:
Around town before 22mpg Now 30s
Motorways before 28mpg now 40s

Well happy!!

Half of it is not the diameter of the rims its the with with the extra friction. So long as the width isn't silly and the rolling diameter is roughly similar the efficiancy should remain the same. Why anyone would run 275 width 4x4 tyres on a van is anyones guess. Glad you got it sorted though bud, didn't thik it would be a bad remap as Pendle are still the original and best for VW vans.

I never really take the van over 2000 revs and never over 65-70mph on the motorway.

It needs to be driven harder than that or your DPF will clog up all the time.

My suggestion would be, next full tank, make it BP Ultimate and go find a nice quiet stretch of motorway and do 80mph, get the revs north of 2000 for at least 30 mins.

I run Ultimate fuel 90% of the time, mostly a 20 mile commute on twisty A road then town driving....37 mpg regardless of what wheels I have fitted. 204 DSG no map.

Hi guys,

I’m new to the VW scene and if I’m honest I’m gutted. I have a 150ps 2016 Kombi and once I fill the tank up from red £80 I’m getting if I’m lucky 330 miles before I’m back in the red again.
The chap I brought it off and a local transporter specialist to me have both said to get it in to VW to check it over. Having sifted through quite a few threads and chatting to a fellow member I’m beginning to think that’s just the way they are.
Is this really the case?
I’d sacrifice bhp over fuel economy. Is it possible and has anyone ever thought about putting the 102 map on a 150?

That’s shocking mpg. Have you got a lead foot?
I’m getting between 550 and 600 miles per tank.

edit 180bhp.

To be fair you are getting what I get I’m a 204 ps. On a non stop run I can get 500 miles but day to day 300 to 350 per week on a full fill up

Hi Pete,

They are a bit of a mixture really. Some short, some motorway driving.

I just don’t get how some people get 500 plus miles and some the miles I get from the same engine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Im going to book it in with VW and see what they say.
Wonder if it could be the dpf sensor.
