Hi Pete,

Yes your absolutely right. I’ve been private messaging Ratty as I had found some threads of his with the same issue.

He said that he replaced the the DPF sensor which didn’t have any affect. It sounds
Like he’s learnt to live with the poor consumption.

I’m running 20inch wheels, but don’t carry a lot of weight either really.

Didn’t get a chance to ring VW today but will tomorrow

I lost 20% on fuel economy swapping from standard 16’ wheels to 20’.
I have now settled on 18s for optimum style/economy

Driving anything above 60mph (gps speed) will horrendously dent your fuel economy. I normally set cruise control to 62mph. Just returned 42mpg on a 130 mile run holding 62mph on 18 inch wheels

Wind direction also makes a big difference! Fighting a strong head wind can also dent your economy by a further ~20% in these boxy vans

Completely agree about the effect of headwinds - you can just watch the average mpg reading deteriorate disastrously.
Overall, we get 32mpg average (real mpg - about 2mpg less than the trip computer says). That's on a late 2016 high-top 204 manual campervan, driven at around 70mph when on motorways, and 'briskly' elsewhere.
That's substantially worse than earlier Transporter campers we've had, and others we've tested, though they've all been driven in the same manner.
I believe the difference is simply the frequent regens required to get this relatively dirty engine to confirm with current, more stringent emissions regulations without cheating in the traditional VW manner.
Every time it regenerates (twice per tankful, someone said?), it burns a whole lot of extra juice and, again, you can watch the av. mpg figure deteriorate on the computer readout. Then it slowly improves again until the next regen.
That's progress!

@Lukavell Its just clocked 18k.. what mpg you getting and what model you got etc?

Hi @Ginni1062,

Firstly, apologies for missing your question. It sounds like you've got to a satisfactory place with your mpg. I thought it was still worth answering in case anyone else was after the info.

I find it interesting how different everyone's experience is with regard to mpg, there are so many variables which are hard to measure objectively.

I've got a 2wd 150 DSG Caravelle, no re-map (yet!) currently on approx 16k with two oil and filter changes complete.

Normal jogging I get around 32 mpg; mixed driving and 16" OEM steel wheels and BF Goodrich AT tyres on.

However, I've just done approx 1500 miles from Napoli to South Yorkshire with 17" OEM Cascavels on.

Motorways all the way. I set the cruise at 70 mph for the first two tanks which got me through Italy, Switzerland and into France. Average MPG worked out on Fuelio (thanks @Dellmassive) at 35.6. I got off the ferry at dover and managed to keep the cruise at 77mph bar M25 section and got 33.5 mpg.

Not great mpg in any way. My Dad's RR Sport gets 40 odd mpg on a run! I think if the engine was left un-throttled by the DPF it would run much more efficiently but then we'd all be breathing more shite in. 6 and 2 3s.

On the way home and in the interests of science I'm thinking about doing a tank at 60mph, then the second at 65 mph to see what mpg I can get. I'll be bored as feck by the third tank so that will be uneconomical!

I managed one tank with the cruise set at 62 mph (100kmh). Bang on 38 mpg. I'm happy with that in a fully loaded caravelle down the east side of france into Switzerland, very hilly, mostly up hill!

The rest of the journey was done much faster and returned just shy of 30 mpg.

All you guys sitting at 2000rpm need to get outta the way !
My Leighton Van gets full lum every time I'm out in it at some point, should see the look on some folks faces "ooft that's a quick van"

Remap will be done in January too to help smooth out the range and torque dump at launch. 204bhp.....ha! They'll be getting swapped form Shetland ponies to Shire horses.

My manual 150BHP kombi will do that on a long run .

Its the shorter runs that are the issues

Good effort there, I'd be pleased too! I recently got 38 on a long steady climbing drive from belgium and through Luxembourg and was chuffed with that. Im looking at getting a Revo done very soon so that is good news, Thanks for sharing!

That's good. My 150 manual has only done 4.2K miles and I'm hoping that my MPG will go up from the current 31 ish once I get a few more K under the bonnet. We've got a couple of long European trips planned for this year which should help.

No loosening for me.
My 150 kombi dsg still struggles to get better than 32mpg whilst empty and travelling at 62mph, and its got 15000 on the clock.
Its the worst part of T6 ownership for me.

Cheap fuel...? Wrong tyre pressures...? Do you drive the DSG in sport mode..?

Tyres could be part of the issue.
I have 17" Michelin Cross Climate on

And the remap has made driving effortless. Hardly any need to use much throttle

Nothing will loosen up. Engines are fully run in after several hundred miles nowadays.
Day one 400 delivery miles in I got average 29mpg. 3 years 60k miles later still getting 29mpg, engine feels the same.

There is NOTHING I haven't tried to improve my mpg.
I drive it like an absolute grandad.
I had standard 16" wheels with tyres pumped right up and even when I took a mate down to the airport at 55mph, I still only managed 34mpg.

It TRULY baffles me that people say they can get upto 40mpg out of the same van but with big 20" inch alloys, a camper conversion and doing 70mph.

hi every one I still have my t5.1 2.0 litre and it is better on fuel than this t6 I have just purchased both 102 both 5 speed and theres 137.000 miles on it compared to 45.000 miles infact the t4 is better than both on a 2.5 engine I will get the t6 remapped once the 3 years warranty is up

I have been surprised today. I travelled over 380 miles today from Sussex to Holyhead in my Caravelle Executive and averaged 41.5 MPG.

And that is with a Revo tune on a 150 DSG.

Very pleased with that.

That's very good for a DSG, what does the dash MPG report- high 40s?

id take no notice of them clocks myself don't know why there in there for one says your doing 39 mpg and the other clock tells you your got 78 miles left in range to find 20 miles later a visit to top up just my opinion !!
