Yes, absolutely. The Transporter is blessed with the drag factor of a brick wall, but also winter brings lights, heaters, etc which also puts extra load on the alternator, which in turn puts load on the engine.

As a quick aside- why are so many of the new EV's so badly designed in terms of drag? The best is probably the Tesla model 3, which just happens to have the best range.

Bit nerdy but I thought I'd share - I did a roundtrip to Cornwall from Bolton this weekend which was 600 miles in total and despite a bit of traffic on the way down I managed 44.27 mpg in my 2019 150bhp kombi with a fixed solar panel on the roof rack

I stuck at 60mph all the way and did about 50 miles on the way back tailgating a couple of hgvs which helped a bit

150hp and I got about 42mpg on a drive tonight. My 2.2 rav4 gets about 34mpg at best, so given the van is a rounded brick that's good IMHO.

2016 102 bhp camper does a consistent 39-41mpg calculated brim to brim. Do not believe the MFD it's a total fabrication.

Last refuel for my 2022 Hillside Birchover 150bhp manual with a mix of A & B roads plus 200mls Motorways (at 60 to 70 mph).

44.8 MPG out of my last tank. 110 manual, mixed motoring. I've had modest hatchbacks that didn't manage that.

I've hung back behind a coach and the mpg was well over 100+ and the wind noise dropped significantly - it was almost serene but the missus was not convinced the benefits were worth the risk..... and this is why I'll never be rich

I think you need to fill the tank and work it out after a refilling again with the actual mileage.

That's the way I do it. It annoys the missus as I won't drive away until I've done the maths and scribbled it on the back of the receipt.

I use a free app called fuelio which I just add the details of every fill up (litres, price per litre and odometer reading) and it does the rest

I've seen 72 or 73.......it seemed to trigger a few people on here. I did point out that I had a massive southerly pushing me north up the A1 between filling up at Wetherby and Thirsk......a pretty flat stretch of road. Real world I get 40+ but regularly see 50+ and even 60......but that's really trying after a fill up . Before anyone asks........I know it's pretty accurate as I check actual consumption when I fill up. Oh.....it's a 150 manual kombi.

The readouts have been reasonably accurate to date, give or take, but as you mention though, a calculation between fill ups would be the best method.

I drove from Thirsk down to Chichester last month. Set off at 4am......very little traffic around and perfect conditions. For large parts of the journey, the sum of the range indicator and the miles driven was showing a predicted 1100 miles! I know, I know.....in reality, I was never going to squeeze 1100 miles from a 70 litre tank......but I'm pretty sure I could've comfortably managed 650/700. Again, it was one of those perfect drives where all the holes in the cheese lined up......ooh, and there were a load of 50mph sections which helped!
