Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

The Deer had VW H4 head lamps and did't see the edge of the cliff lol .... was it fresh could of took a steak off for the BBQ shame to waste it ....
When we got back to the van 3hrs later it was gone. Looked fresh when we passed it. Assumed the council took it away but could have been taken for food.

Unforunately they taste like sh1t unless they’ve cut their own throat and had a good crap before they jump, crow food.
That would be a very obliging deer! Aren’t the locals at war with them there as they are a real nuisance. Could have been a villager pushing it!

@Nige_g. That happened to me not long after I got the van. Called VW Assist and he had the part on board to do the job (which says a lot!). A couple of months later, it happened again but I sorted it myself playing about with the internal locking latch and handle - sorry can't remember exactly what I did but, being me, it wasn't anything too technical. I'm probably putting the mockers on myself now by saying that I haven't had a recurrence!
VW assist came to me this morning. He started off with the simple things, working his way up to removing all of the locking mechanisms in that door. He was getting a bit flummoxed by what was wrong. He was with me nearly 2 hours. Eventually he got it to work. He believes it was some of the insulation from behind the door card that had got into the mechanism at the handle end and after fully cleaning it, it was working fine. I will have to see how it goes.
i eventually arrived at Nantcol Waterfalls campsite.

@Rickeyman. Excellent - we've stayed their many times over the years but in a tent only. TBH we've never really given it much thought since we got the camper due to it's limited ability to cater for them. Also, in all the years that we used the place, the showers facilities just started all looking kind of tired as they were never refurbished - always very clean just suffered a bit from old age like a lot of us. Maybe things have changed nowadays?

@Sib. We stayed at the Lynton C&CC site back in 2019 and went to the Bridge Inn (or whatever it's called nowadays) for the Thai food which was very, very good at the time.

On the subject of the C&CC site it's also good and in a nice spot IMHO. However, neither my wife nor I are exactly unfit but we found the walk up the narrow lane from Lynton to the site to be a real killer, especially after a few pints. The walk back from the Bridge Inn (or further down the hill to Lynmouth) isn't much better and a lot of it is along the main road. Luckily, there's a decent taxi company which operates out of Lynton but it does add a bit to the cost of a night out. That's one of the issues that I have with a lot of C&CC sites - they always seem to be a long way from the nearest watering holes. That said, I might be a bit unfair on the C&CC as a lot of campsites are the same.

The beach is only a 10min walk away.
Going there in 4 wks, ee eye ee eye oh!... Please stay sunny, please stay sunny, puhleaze stay sunny!
We only managed two nights before the weather beat us there. It was very quiet but got the impression they would have struggled over half term week. While we were there the power kept tripping out. The grass was very long. While the toilets looked nice I don't think are up to the task of constant use. Door handles were falling off with just a few campers on site. Got the feeling last week would have been a real test for the new owners.

It certainly looks like they were busy last week as the bins are still overflowing.
We are disappointed that they have closed the bar this week and only announced it on Facebook the day before we arrived. I asked why and the response was “the owners are away and we don’t have enough staff”.
The shop is also empty of fresh produce and essentials and as you say the toilets look nice but are fragile (we have found broken locks and a broken seat) and I also think they would struggle if the site was full.
On the plus side the pitch is large, the beach is lovely albeit the walk to it is a busy narrow road, and the sun is shining.
Summary it is ok but is not living up to what we were led to expect.
