Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Having dialled up the van camping set-up to 11, I’ve ironically been hankering after something much more ‘back to basics’, so I scratched that itch recently, with my bro’ in-law (a thankfully like-minded soul).

Carry what you need on your back, hike up a beautiful bit of elevation to get some views, and arrive late to enjoy a sunset, a moonrise, dark skies and get-up early for a mountain-top coffee and (frosty) sunrise before leaving at the crack of dawn (and leaving zero trace). It was very good for the brain box (think they call it mental health these days) - there’s something about leaving everything behind and putting terrain, rather than tarmac or concrete under your feet. Bloody loved it - and if course the van was the thing that got us there and back…

So diesel heaters, electric hook-up and all the other camping comforts aren’t always necessary - sometimes it’s just good to use the bus to get you to the starting point of your weekend adventure, leave it behind, and then use it to get you back again.
Well done, van travel is one thing, on foot is 10 times better.
Love it!

Yes. I used to attach a Vango Hexaway but much prefer the flexibility of the railsail in addition to a Quest Screen House 4.
thanks @Higgidav
aye, we have a driveway but looking for a 'canopy' type affair for shorter trips. love the look of the Railsail but struggling wit the price...
is it worthwhile?

@Trouts personally I think so. It is very versatile and I take it on every trip. The adjustable poles are from go outdoors and also work well.

@Trouts. I sometimes 'struggle with the price' as I firmly believe that some stuff costs more than it should simply because it's VW and / or camper related (but 'er indoors says it's just because I'm getting tight in my old age!). However, I've also got a Railsail which I've posted about on here before and IMHO it's definitely worth the asking price. I got mine as a bargain from another forum member but if I lost it today, I'd order a replacement at full price straight away.

Today started off with a stop in an aire not far from Dijon for breakfast of fresh almond croissants, orange and coffee.

A drive then took us through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Many years since I have been through there. €51 it cost. Ouch. I need to get rid of the dead fly juice.

Italy now. Italian side of the tunnel. The wide angle makes it look like I have stretch T6.

And now at our AirBnB for the night. Not a bad view from the upstairs terrace of the house.
