Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Camping La Bien Assise 20 minutes away from Euro Tunnel. This is 19th and final campsite (all ACSI) ending 71 consecutive nights sleeping in the van touring Spain and France. It’s by far the longest trip we have ever done. We did not book a single campsite or use any tolls and we were largely guided by weather forecasts plus a few locations we definitely wanted to see. It’s been fantastic but also looking forward to having some home comforts :)

Wow, 71 days! That is one trip. How many miles will you have clocked up by the time you have finished?

Will be on there tomorrow for our final few nights. We did try the no tolls but gave up after a short time. When your on a very limited time schedule the tolls come into there own.

Thanks for this. I’ve been looking for a suitable stop near Calais. Looks like just the place.

We left Torre de la Mora in Spain yesterday and drove 450 odd Kms to Carcassone. Now pitched at Camping de la Cite which is just about alright for the 5 nights we're here (even though it's a large pitch) but I wouldn't want to stay here for weeks! It's not an ACSI CC site so is relatively expensive at €35 a night but on the plus-size it's only a short stroll to the medieval city and a longer walk to the Canal du Midi. On the way down through Spain, I was pleasantly surprised at the complete lack of tolls on the motorway but that was offset a fair bit by the fact that we got ripped off in France. We got to a toll ticket gate just over the border in France, took the ticket and then drove 10 Km to the Peage Station at the required junction. Mrs AJ was driving so I put the ticket in, tapped the credit card, picked up the receipt and drove off. It was only when we were a way down the road that I looked at the receipt and realised they had charged us €49 for that short 10Km stretch. I think there must have been a mistake and we did consider going back and having an argument but decided not to bother as my grasp of French probably wasn't up to it so lesson learnt.
