Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Currently in Piesey-Nancroix in the Alps & it’s coming down in buckets today. Skied Les Arcs (or at least some easy blues as it’s our first day & the weather was murky).

The chances of getting my Mrs to agree to a break like that are as remote as getting her on the extremely rough ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight! Yet she bungeed and jumped out of a plane in NZ. But the cold? No chance! That looks stunning!

TBF it isn’t cold, currently sat in the van in our t shirts. I’ve had to turn the fan heater down as we were melting. The campsite has a lovely bar with a big log fire that you can sit in & play games/read/drink for as long as you like. Showers are hot. We were togged up on the slopes today, -8C but didn’t feel cold. The air is dry, so it’s not like at home when the weather is wet & cold.

Hi @Salty Spuds , just wondering what battery are you using, my Roamer is under zero degrees and not charging, do you have a special extreme lithium battery or just a heated one? If I managed to convince my cold blooded wife to do a trip like that we would need a battery that played nicely!

We have a SuperB Epsilon battery. Had it about 5 years now, it’s good for charging down to -20C apparently. Never failed me yet, we were off grid in -20C last year & it was charging quite happily off the solar. It wasn’t cheap, but I suppose it’s a “get what you pays for” scenario.

Strewth! I thought Roamer were expensive! £2415 currently for yours! Specs look great though...

Just checked, that’s the new 150Ah version at that price. Mine’s the older 90Ah version. If I was doing another conversion, I’d definitely put one of the 150Ah ones in…or maybe two

Ah! I suppose the solar is a bit dodgy when it's snowing well! Are you switching on much to top up the battery?

That’s epic for sure however I’d have nowhere to store and dry all my snowboarding stuff
Just needs a bit of lateral thinking. Skis & boots are in the campsite drying room, clothes are in the roofspace of the van. We have a fan heater running more or less continuously (we’re paying for EHU, why wouldn’t you?). Clothes are warm & dry each morning.IMG_5751.jpeg
