Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Driving in Bradford & other such places it’s best to practice defensive driving & expect the unexpected. Like don’t assume drivers will stop at red lights & don’t leave narrow gaps that someone might try and fit through - either leave no gap or a massive gap.
Harder to do these things on a motorbike…that’s when I use the horn a lot more, I’d rather annoy someone & beep them than assume they’ve seen me etc

Having had my Burgman 400 stolen from under me in Birmingham Central a few years ago I feel I have all round vision these days!
If it was compulsory to ride a motorbike, I think our driving standards may well be better!
Damned if I would do two wheels in Bradford though!

@Bav. PPS. Or was the OEM screen fitted because your one of those poshos with a T6.1 which is maybe too new for lookee likees to be available yet.
It's OEM, but only because I stood my ground when Comfort Insurance wanted to replace with aftermarket.

They initially refused outright to use OEM, then they wanted me to pay the difference (£640 !!), then they agreed to speak to the underwriters (Aviva I believe) who accepted my point that the van was only 11 months old, so I'd lose the remaining 25 months VW warranty for all the screen-related functions (heating, rain sensors, etc.) if they didn't use OEM.

Due to having to use the trans-Pennine carpark (aka the M62 or the M-sixty-poo), I used to bike-in to Bradford for the short period I worked there. I did, though, chose my route very carefully and had to be 'on it' 100% of the time.

@Bav. I'm interested in that as I've got to make the call later today to my insurers about a similar journey (this one to the Gloucester branch). Did they fit an OEM or lookee likee screen and was it heated? Indeed, did the subjects even come up when you first reported it?
PS. Just noticed that you said 'OEM'.
Yes, the replaced with OEM, but only after a fight (which I think I've just described to you in an earlier response). The proposed aftermarket version would have had all the same functions, including being heated, and it would probably have been technically identical to the OEM, but I doubt VW cover an aftermarket screen under their warranty.

@Bav. Cheers. I've just spoken to to the Ageas Glassline (aka Autoglass). I mentioned the fact that the van was under VW warranty, parts of which would be invalidated if anything other than an OEM screen was fitted. The representative said that they would have to take the case to Ageas and would get back to me, probably late next week. She added that they [Ageas] might well expect me to pay 'more than' the usual £90 excess. My policy actually says that they will not pay more than £500 but TBH I’ve no idea how much a T6 OEM heated screen with auto headlights, rain sensors etc. would cost. We will just have to wait and see.

If they come back and say no to an OEM replacement, ask them to justify the diminishment (in insurance parlance, this is the opposite of betterment) that your partial loss of warranty cover would represent. They could well claim that replacing with OEM represents betterment (i.e. you end up with the same type of screen, but it's newer than it was), in which case you could argue that any additional contribution that they're expecting from you should be based on the value of the extra "newness" of the screen, not on the full cost difference between OEM and after-market. (Hope this makes sense).

@Bav, Thanks for that (I think I understand!). We will see what they say next week (or whenever they get back to me).

You guys must be talking about Bradford in Sierra Leone surely...I can't believe it would be Bradford England...maybe i should take a visit one day...is there much to see and do?( Bradford England)
Don’t forget we’ve got two in England…I assume everyone is talking about Bradford on Avon? ;)
I never forget going to the national media museum & asking if James Bonds car was still there…the lady on reception didn’t know who James Bond was & asked if he worked at the museum!!

Sunset at Southport, no overnight camping allowed. Could have moved to a car park nearby but it was rammed.. but forgot to charge the leisure battery so no heating and without EHU Mrs was not ready for “roughing it” after only coming back from the Canary Islands earlier this week… still needs to acclimatise
