AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Warning went from 4000 miles to 650 miles in one jump and threatened no restart. Topped tank up and it only took 3 litres so the original 4000mile level was correct and there must have been a fault. The light stayed on for a while but has now gone and the level reads 6000 miles,, which is correct. Is there still a fault or will it have corrected itself. Should I just wait and see before contacting the dealer. Van under warranty.
This happened to me a coupler of weeks ago on the way to Norfolk I called VW assist and the guy came out could not find a fault he topped it up (about 2litres) so no level problem. the warning was still on. We decided to carry on and about 5 miles down the road the readout went to 600miles! Shortly after that it suddenly went up to 6000 miles and has been fine since so a bit of a mystery!!

So the dreaded Ad Blue warning light is back on. In December they upgraded the software again and told me the software had to be specially written from the factory for my van
From then till now it has been fine. Last Thursday there was a 5500 KM range on it and it suddenly dropped to 1000 with the error warning light coming on. After continuing to drive for another hour or so, it went off and the range went back to 5500. Everything was ok till now and the range was dropping normally. it was down at 4500 and next thing it dropped to 1000 again with the warning coming on. The min level for the top up was 3.25L and max was 5.25L. I just put in 4 L, turned on the ignition for 30 seconds, but it still says 1000KM. The min and max levels are not showing up now.

I have a good 500 KM drive to do tomorrow, so hopefully it will be OK.
With the covid-19, all the garages are closed. The van is still under warranty.
Does anyone know if there is an actual fix for this?
See post #112 above for the history.

I'm having the ongoing issue see #112
Just back from the dealer for the fourth time since Xmas.
Last week P20EE (Emissions Efficiency below threshold) EML up.
AdBlue Level went from 4500 to 650 no restart then up to 5000 and still at 5000 100 miles later (it was recently topped up at VW when in for the 3rd fault and displayed range was 5000 miles and I have completed 1100 miles since then in total)
So have been told AdBlue system was ok and the issue was a high content in the DPF. I drive mainly motorway hardly any town and in my previous three cars which had DPF's and never had any DPF issues over 250k miles not even a DPF light.
So DPF has been manually regen'd I'm doing a 400 mile around trip this weekend then back into dealer Monday for a diagnostics checks.
I'm still convinced its an AdBlue issue and have opened a case VW Customer Care. The dealer has been good and I cant complain but they are driven by what they can do by VW Technical/Warranty.

..... Penso davvero di aver fatto bene a non mettere le mani sul mio veicolo per nessun richiamo, tanto meno per Adblue ... software del motore ... corrosione del tetto ... cinghia di distribuzione ..... vaffanculo

Good luck with VW customer care , in my experience they are appalling bad . My dealer was excellent in similar situation too.
Have you had the software update carried out ?
My problem was recurrent engine management light, and the adblue range fault once over 1 year from New .
Have now covered 11 k with no problems since .
Feel for you , it's so frustrating when dealer trying to help but tied by what vw do.
Is rejecting the van an option if they have not managed to fix ?

So last Wednesday evening, with the ad blue warning on and not going off, I made the decision to call VW assist, as all garages are closed at the moment. I need the van for work and cannot do without it.
After explaining the situation, they firstly said we can't really assist as you are still driving. Crazy. Eventually they said ok we will send a tow truck and pick it, which they did. After cleaning out the back of all my tools, the temporary replacement arrived, so loaded that up with the tools.
Apparently my own van ill be left in storage until garages re-open. I eventually got through to the sales guy that sold me the van at the main dealer. He know's the history with it. Told him I needed it sorted ASAP so waiting for the service manager to call me. That was last Thursday.
Can I tell them at this stage that the van is not fit for purpose an demand a replacement? I believe this is the 8th time the van will be looked at for the d blue warning, bear in mind 3 months after I bought it, they had to change the mechatronic console. She is a DSG.
Not sure what my rights are here, maybe a solicitor would know. I just know 'I am so disappointed in the van and will likely never buy another VW again. The warranty is finished in 12 months.

This is really sad story :(
I feel for you mate.
My T6 is my 7th VW and every single one gave me very positive experience and 100% reliability. My Carravelle is 4 years old and I had only 2 issues: drivers seat heating element and alternator belt tensioner.

Maybe legal way is the right way?

I think I will see what my legal rights are. Hate to do it but don't feel like I have a choice.
I am probably just unlucky, and I guess most people have a positive experience with their VW's but not me.
It cost a hell of a lot of money as I got them to load it up with quite a few extras. I'll try and contact the sales guy again tomorrow to see if he can get the service manager to call me.

They initially said in December 2019 that my March 2017 van hadn’t had the update so they did it! Then apparently another update on the 3rd visit in march.
I brought the van second hand from the vw dealer in November 2019. They supplied the vehicle from new and it’s always been serviced by them. It’s a shame I can’t get the original owners details from the log book anymore. I shall request the previous warranty work history from the dealer as VW customer care wouldn’t supply it.
I am out of time rejecting the van plus I’ve spent about £7500 on camper work etc so not an option.

Just to update this, van had EGR flush in Dec 18, Feb 19, June 19, September 19 and just had VW assist out after the light came back on whilst being away in France.

Read the codes with Carista and it’s the same as on all the other occasions. Dealer booked up till February for diagnostics (Lookers Carlisle) so going to try Hadwins Lindale. If VW don’t want to replace the EGR then they can keep the van.

10,000 miles in and mine has come up with a P2463 code instead. Can I assume this will be DPF related considering the fault code you posted directly accuses the EGR or can the EGR also be included in my faul code? I've run it on idle for a few times to top up the leisure batteries over the last few weeks as I've been visiting people in a caring role and sleeping on driveways etc without hookup.

Ok so I didn’t wait 30 seconds before turning the key. Now it won’t reset. Any solution? I’ve read the threads on here but no luck

Try again in the morning but leave it a minute with the ignition on before starting.

failing the above . . . .

if you have over filled it.

you may need to empty some out (what VW assist will do if you call them out)

Just done my first adblue refill - 1400 mile refill bing, 1.75 to 2.5 G refill so put 10L in all good

So, I have a bit of a tupperware fettish and wondering what to do with the bottle. I’ve told SWMBO we can use it for our camping water bottle as the spout will be good for filling the kettle (joke - she knows the source of the original contents).

Other idea was to cut the ends out as tool / part / drip trays when working on the cars.

Any other suggestions apart from the obvious recycle it!

Ian (I need to get out more, as we all do!!)

thanks for this thread I have changed my mind about buying 2016 with only 1k on the clock,
dpf now adblue...no thanks. Will get older model without that s@#$t.

Bloody hell.... Never knew this. In 4 years of ownership, I've filled it and got straight in and driven it.... None of this ignition on for 30 seconds business. Never had a probl.... Oooh, hang on.... Not gonna tempt fate!
