AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Same here as chambersaa above, but on 4 separate occasions several months apart.

VW assist (Alan from Preston area, who I almost class as a friend due to our regular meetings & brews....) attended and this time did that software update that apparently everyone has been waiting for. And gave me my free adblue x8 paperwork. Regarding this, do they just top you up, or do they give a 10 litre tin to take away. Just wondering, as if it’s the former I’ll run it down a bit before calling in. Nearest dealer is a 3 hr round trip.

The chap at Cleckheaton VW told me to run it down to 1,000 or so miles and make the most of each free re-fill.

Update; took the van to Hadwins Van Service Centre last week and had the EGR flushed again, all is reported as working okay. Dealer is going to push for replacement of EGR valve and cooler if/when the fault occurs again.

That’s five EGR flushes in 28k miles, the van does regular long journeys and never runs on supermarket fuel.

I’m sure I read on the Cali forum that the EGR Cooler is now a revised/modified part which has a coating on the cooling fins to help reduce soot build up, does anyone know anything about this?

I have found a replacement brand new EGR/Cooler for £250 on Auto Doc. Has anyone entertained the idea of DYI?
They're easy enough to take off and clean, so changing should be easy too. I've cleaned several on different vehicles over the years.

Evening guys
I have had my 204 kombi 4 weeks now everything all good until I had the engine light come on... oh great here we go runs through your head, still has 7 month warranty left, I had a quick plug in seen it was a sensor issue with reading the temperature rung up vw to get her booked in 2 and a bit weeks ago and now the light has gone out by its self... I was told the light had to be on for them to look at the issue, slightly different in the HGV world where I come from as a fault is a fault requires to be looked at, any know if this is true the fault code will be stored still etc
Cheers Kyle

The faults are stored in the ECU and can be read for when the fault was first detected and the number of instances since. Is it the VW dealer that is telling you the light must be on?

Always best to call VW Assist, they will come out and scan it, then if workshop action is needed they get a priority booking and it it seen within 48hours if the tech can’t fix it at the roadside.

Thanks for the reply I spoke to them a few weeks ago and got it booked in for this Friday but not hearing the best reports
About the dealer but I will give them ago... I will be doing a vid and pics of the van when I park it up and saying no cleaning please

I agree totally with Loz , how difficult is it to measure out and do what it say's on the MFD ? and avoid problems.....

I did it only just this morning;
Purchased 5L Adblue from Costco last time we were there.
Display showed;

Swapped units to metric.

Poured in the 5L job done.

Once you know that info you wait until the 1500m warning comes up and just pour in 5L

Same here, wait till 400 or 400miles warning....

Then bung in 10ltrs...

Or just go to the local garage that has ad-blue in the pump & put in whatever the MFD states. 50p/litre the last time I filled up. Just seen it at €0.37/litre at a French supermarket.

Warning went from 4000 miles to 650 miles in one jump and threatened no restart. Topped tank up and it only took 3 litres so the original 4000mile level was correct and there must have been a fault. The light stayed on for a while but has now gone and the level reads 6000 miles,, which is correct. Is there still a fault or will it have corrected itself. Should I just wait and see before contacting the dealer. Van under warranty.

My van did exactly the same thing whilst returning from France on Friday. The level went from 4500 miles straight to 650 miles till no start. I didn’t top the van up and continued driving as I was pushing on to get on an earlier train. After about 10 miles it reset back to 4000 miles, we continued on doing another 480 and it was fine. I never overfill it either. Stumped :thumbsdown:

Going to leave it I think see what happens when it gets to that level again. Could be just a one off.
Still under warranty so I’ll take it to a van centre if it does. Just don’t want it counting down that rapidly when I’m away. Just out of interest how old your van/mileage mines an 18 plate 26000.

I had the same. One minute 2500 miles, the next 600. Went back to 2500 miles after about 30 mins of driving. 3 year old van with 40k on the clock.
