No, you would need to check your license to see you can tow 3500kgs combined van & caravan. I think if you passed your driving test before 1997 then your should have grandad father rights which allows you to tow up to 7500kgs
My Grandad was born in 1903 (been dead ages) never took any sort of test and drove a lorry for a living. Those are Grandad rights. I'm not sure you are 100% about towing 7500kg tho'. I'm pretty sure the pre 1996 car license allows up to 7500kg gross train weight.
You need a test for everything now, and rightly so. Even when I was 16, I could drive a tractor on L plates and tow anything unaccompanied if it only had one seat. I shudder to think what sort of mess I could have made at silage/harvest time. Even the big tractors had hardly any brakes and the trailers certainly didn't have any.

Where does this say you can tow 7500kgs?
I did say I only thought that was the case but it does not affect me so apologies if it is incorrect

The EU had the lower weight limit for drivers ,3,500 and the UK a higher limit 7,500
As we were in the EU and in order to enable the UK to become equivalent to the lower EU limit instead of the EU raising their threshold, the UK moved.
But rather than introducing a draconian step change overnight, the UK took their existing standard and split it into 2 groups, (up to 3500 and up to 7500), so effectively no change, for drivers, just 2 groups on their licence instead of one ( but achieving the same thing)
Then two years later it brought in the law dropping the higher group for new licence holders
This was another erosion of UK standards that few noticed at the time.
