Covid-19: How is it affecting you?

My wife went to Sainsbury’s this morning and shelves were full. Lots of people buying beer apparently :)

I think delivery services are going flat out at the moment as people are relying on home deliveries far more. I understand Amazon are recruiting hard at the moment.

Let’s try and stay positive folks.

Thats odd as we just went in to Tesco's. Absoluetly no freezer food, no loo roll (not surprising given SM posts), not any pet food either. Loads and loads of empty shelves. Limit of 3 per certain items on things that were in stock.
We got a pack of hob nobs and 3 packs of squashed fly biscuits and had to choose only 3 packs of biscuits. Cant say I ever thought we would argue over biscuits. Mrs won obviously. Problem is I would normally do an online shop but they are fully booked until past 7th of April and they dont go any further.
I really do feel for the elderly especially if they have only just been paid.

If they are saying the shops can cope, I have not seen it yet. We have tried to shop 3 times this week. They did have some bread and milk which is handy so we got 1 of each. The only beer they had was Corona for some reason. So I got 2 boxes just incase we run out of milk.

Looking at how much Share prices have plummeted , I realise my decision to not invest was wise.

I don't mean this in any way to sound racist or xenophobic but China really needs to stand up and take some action here... Sars, Mers, Swine Flu now CoronaVirus... the next one could prove to be hugely fatal to mankind...

I think they would gain a massive amount of world respect if they said enough is enough... we're going to clean up our act and improve food hygiene... rather than say the US military has planted the virus in China... Its actually an appalling lack of respect to everyone else on the planet...

I think it’s all down to timing and location. The shops can only restock so quickly, and if you live in an urban area (or near one), then the population density effect can be more exaggerated.

Our local shops seem to be better stocked than some of the big supermarkets.

Where about a do you live? For no particular reason, just wondering :whistle:

Just inside Shropshire near RAF Cosford, between Wolverhampton and Telford.

If anyone lives near us and is struggling with shopping then happy to offer my wife’s shopping services.

Pete

PS that’s the only services she’s offering !

Going mad at my work. Been on 7 day working for a few weeks now with no sign of that stopping any time soon. Every day that goes on its more like being in a film

Not at all mate. I think there is something going on here and they should seriously start paying for these things. Its an absolute disgrace and they really are disgusting if they are causing this by eating or trading in these animals (if it is that and not a lab).
I find it amazing they create these problems, theres then an economy crash around the world or in another country.
Look at what China are doing now, no new cases.
It was only 2 weeks before the outbreak that the US and China made a trade deal, China got a crap deal out of it but now just look at China and their economy. They are buying shares and gold throughout the world while other countries economies are scraping the bottom of the bottle.
You have to question things sometimes, bit of a coincidence to be a conspiracy. Those who speak out about China within China have dissapeared.

Sainsburys have gone a bit OTT with some of the buying restrictions. SWMBO could buy 3 bottles of IPA or 3 cases of beer.

A work colleague at the next till could only buy 3 of her favourite individual yogurts but could buy 3 packs of 6

Ha!...I thought the same..with interest rates being pretty crap a few months ago i nearly bunged some savings in to stocks and shares but i didn't get around to it....who says procrastination is a bad thing!

China have a lot to answer for on many fronts not only this current issue - pollution, copyright infringement, standard of living and trading practices etc to name but a few

Kind of regretting not panic buying now, no food in shops, no deliveries available for 2 weeks. Hopefully it will improve as shops restock now the selfish barstewards have fully stocked their panic bought new 2nd fridges!

We’re the same. We’ve not bought anything over and above our normal shop, on the basis that if we all do that, things will level out. Social media doesn’t help, as this creates unnecessary panic.

Totally agree with this quote
Buy what we need, supermarkets will cope
Facebook etc don’t help in some situations

If you look at a wagon say Sainsbury’s running 24 hours a day three drivers a day
Possible doing six loads a day with 28 tonnes on each load
How many lorries each supermarket has
There’s quite a bit of food being panic bought LOL

What a day! Found out my car has been keyed front to back (moved off the drive to make way for the van) and now the neighbours drains are backed up so we can’t flush the toilet for the next ??? Hours/days or risk flooding their house.
Oh well, with social distancing I guess we don’t need to shower anyway!

Well its day 7 (i think) and.the cabin fever.is getting to me. To be honest I'm feeling rather crappy. Cough has started and running a mild temperature.

However its not all bad. Had this delivered today. Only problem is I've still got another 7 days of isolation.

Yup it's China's fault, eating anything that moves.
I've not been shopping yet as I only do 1 a month and dont need loads, I eat to live not live to eat. And I don't eat bog roll either!

So in the supermarket what happens if beer comes in a 4 or 6 pack and you can only have 3?
