Discover Media Navigation software

The guide you followed is wrong, the map data remains on the SD card and is read from there everytime you boot the device (turn ignition on)
Do you have the original contents of the SD card ? If you do simply reinstate it and everything will go back to normal
If you dont or you want to update the maps get a spare card, blank it then copy the latest downloaded maps to the card

I downloaded my latest map updates from here
http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...rame_campaign_light&Page=VW_Europe_Media_MIB2
Its very large and takes a long time, after you have downloaded you need to use WinZip or 7Zip or similar program to extract/uncompress the files and this is what gets placed on the SD card
Once on the card there is nothing else to do other than insert it into the headunit

My guess is you have either not downloaded the correct map data or you have not extracted/copied correctly to the card
If you are not sure show us a picture of the contents of your SD card but all you should be seeing on there is a folder called 'maps' insode that a folder called '00' and inside that three folders as per pic below

If its like whats in the 2017 golf then if the worst design ever - I resorted to using my phone.

The live traffic updates are brilliant.
Talks too much and can't find a way to change the voice nor mute but can turn it down and the music up.

No I initially wiped the original card, used the wrong files as you point out @Pauly .
I then used a 64gb micro SD card end extracted the new zip file to it.
The result is as per the attached photos. Grrrr.
It is a step closer though.
Not got the contents screenshot of the card to hand at the moment though.

@Diesel9a1 It recently took me 3days to update my golf sat nav and I got sick of the warnings above. First of all I reformatted the original card then tried but it said card wasn't large enough so I bought a bigger card but despite what the website says about using any SD card it only accepted the original. It won't accept micro sd cards in an adapter either.
I am not a computer whizz by any stretch but I found out when you format a card there is a setting in the menus on the left before you do it about how much space will be used during the formatting. I selected the default one with no value against it, this then meant there was enough room to hold the required files. I then download the files and unzipped to the card. It now works fine (as well as a VW sat nav is designed to anyway)
I hope that makes sense, if not I will try and link to the original post I found if I can find it again.
Good luck

RANT: VW discovery car nav in this format without live internet and updates is already obsolete. Not to mention regular manual updates one needs to perform for the nav system! it is the same with CD reader - gods know why car manufacturers still install it in some cars !Mobile phone with internet access and
google drive, it has everything and more!

Ok, Downloaded the update but my mac won't unzip it. Anybody know of a programme I can use to unzip on a mac?

Edit: Went on the app store and downloaded a free app called Decompressor. Worked fine. Now off to Currys to get a new sd card and see if I can get it to work.
Will update later.

Despite what the website says, it will not accept some other SD cards. If at all possible, use the original card reformatted.

Well that didn't work out too well. Update didn't work and now the back up I did also doesn't work. Both on original sd card.
I'm certain its something I've done wrong or maybe because I'm on a mac but van is booked in on warranty work next week so will get them to fix it. :-(

Are you able to post a screen shot of what shows on your Mac when you first go into the SD card. The final piece to my jigsaw was that the unzipped folders got put inside another folder on the card, I had to move the contents of that folder (think it was 2 more folders) out to the first level then delete that first folder as it was then empty. It then worked fine.

if on a mac you need to format the SD card in FAT format before you start.

Heres the pics but I think the problem stems from I didn't format that card. I sent it to the recycle bin and that probably deleted some hidden system files on the card.
As previously mentioned. I'm sure its my fault and nothing to do with the update.

That all looks ok, you may well be right if you haven't formatted the original card. Give that a try and see how you get on. Good luck

From the update site:
Prerequisites for the navigation map update:
1. You need the SD-CDA card containing the previous map data from your navigation system. The SD card is inserted in SD card slot 2 at the factory."

Bummox! My original card no longer has the original data on it. :(

Ask someone to make an archive of theirs for you.
