Discover Media Navigation software

I have used my original card and wiped the old data (after backing it up) put the updated maps on it and works fine FWIW I didn't format the card
 
I'm pretty sure it just means you need to use the original card, not that it needs the original data still on it.

I downloaded it, unzipped it and tried it on a new card - no joy.

I then took the original VW card, backed up the factory files to my Mac, then formatted the card as FAT32 & copied across the same new download - worked no problem first time, no install required & just a short pause while it thought about it.

The postcode thing seems only partially resolved - when I tried to enter SE1 9XX it took it as SE19 when I missed out the space. YO1 6XX worked fine when entered as YO16XX though ...

That’s because there is an SE19 and no YO16
 
I like the mod to remove the space... Although weird to type. The mod might have been better if the space bar was added to the number screen?

But for me, another main gripe is.... We start our post codes with letters not numbers! If the unit knows we're in the UK, present the post code selection in UK format!

What's wrong with a normal keyboard with numbers across the top??

Also, when selecting to enter post code, why do we have to press town on the address (or whatever it is), then press post code, then press letters......

Indeed, our 12 yr old garmin Nuvi was more user friendly and I could do full postcodes with house numbers! However it seems most car manufacturers really struggle with sat nav interfaces, not just VW.
 
TomTom & Garmin don't struggle. Hey why don't vehicle head unit manufacturers chat with TomTom & Garmin so we can have decent integrated sat nav? Or is that too chuffing sensible and all manufacturers are being greedy / stupid?

Actually Mrs Loz's smart has TomTom as the built in media system and very good it is too..
 
has anyone else tried to update a discover media sat nav ,and ended up with the updated maps etc ,on the card ,but set cant read it? I've tried about 10 times ,and followed the instructions very carefully,but to no avail. dealers don't seem to know either,as they just sent me a new updated sd card. but I want to be able to do it in the future.
 
I think that is what it was, it was definitely on the vw website,and gave full instructions for here technology downloads
 
I read that only the original VW card works, think this might be something to do with either anti piracy or standard sdcard speeds. Think the disco pro has a hard drive also...
 
Hi all

Tried to update my sd card today, followed process on VW website and now my card has gone belly up, stuck it back into unit and theres nothing, tried to put original file back on but to no avail, called VW garage where got van from, they said it couldn't be done and to call VW customer service (as much use as a chocolate fireguard), spoke latter end of today and with being Easter they will get back in touch Tuesday/Wednesday. Has anyone else had this issue and if so did you manage to resolve :(
 
Did you update using a Mac or a PC?
Did you use the self installer or did you download the files then unzip them and instal manually?
 
Hi NW, using Mac, downloaded file as instructed (followed VW tutorial video), unzipped, (saved original file from sd card), deleted file from sd card and reinstalled with new download. Nothing, when inserted into radio it didn't recognise anything, so erased and put original back onto sd card, reinserted into radio and still nothing :cry:
