Discover Media Navigation software

Thinking about it overnight when you unzipped the files you need to extract them directly to the SD card not to a folder on the Mac.
If you unzipped them to your Mac then copied/pasted that folder over to the SD card you will have an incorrect structure.
Just a thought.

Morning NW, still having issues, when I try to put file into sd card (assuming I'm putting right file in) it tells me there isn't enough disk space for file to go in and to manage my disc space, the file is only 6.42GB and sd card is 16GB :(

NW: just downloaded a file opener and managed to open the maps file which then automatically went onto VW sd card, tried in van and nothing, completely bamboozled now - is the pub open yet, could turn into a very wet day :)

When you download the appropriate maps bundle form the website, you should end up with a file called 'DiscoverMedia2_EU1_4517_0915_V02.7z' or similiar depnding on version.

You then just extract this file using a compatible program (7-Zip, etc) and you will have a folder called 'maps'.

Delete the existing files on your navigation SD card and (assuming it is formatted correctly), drag the extracted 'maps' folder to the SD card. The head unit looks for the 'maps' folder that contains other subfolders with all the data.

Ok, I think I am beginning to understand now. What it sounds you have done is messed up the SD card data, which is fixable, but we need to know where we are.
As Pauly suggested earlier, so we can see what is on the card, can you open it on your MacBook and screenshot the contents so we can see what is on it please?

Or, having just read Dilbert’s post, which is spot on you, delete the data on the SD card and follow his instructions

Hi Dilbert NW couple of screenshots, tried card in satnav and nothing - thanks for all your patience on this much appreciated on a bank holiday and all

One other thing, when reformatting card it said (as above) select MS-DOS (FAT), this wouldn't work so selected below

I am not familiar with Mac screens but it looks like you have copied the downloaded . 7z file to the SD card? The. 7z file is a compressed container that you must extract first using a suitable program.
Inside the 7z file is a folder called 'maps'. This is what needs copying to the SD card.

Just reformatted in ExFat and downloading map folder to sd card, will cross fingers when done - thanks

If, as Dilbert points out you haven’t unzipped the 7z file you will need to install an app you can find for free on the App Store called The Unarchiver and run the file through this first.
Once you have formatted the SD card you can tell Unarchiver to unzip and download directly to the SD card.
Good luck

You need MS FAT not ex Fat

Hi guys, no luck I'm afraid and also followed Dilberts advice and used Unarchiver app to run the downloaded file, the file size on sd card (maps) is as below

NW: just seen your comment on using MS FAT not ex Fat, will try again but it wouldn't format when I initially tried MS-DOS (FAT)

Hi guys, failed again, guess thats all avenues covered, will await and see what VW customer service has to say next week. Once again thanks for all your efforts on this yesterday/today

Ok, before you give up, erase and format the card yet again and drag back into it the original Map file you saved.

You have a lot of files missing. The latest update (version 915 = file 'DiscoverMedia2_EU1_4517_0915_V02.7z') is 13 GB. You only have 7.3 GB.

I think that Tommy is not extracting the file from the 7z format properly as the file size is just too small. Hopefully reinstalling the original backup file will get it back how it was.

NW: problem now being I've had so many files and deleted so many I'm not sure which is the original file or if I still have it :(

Dilbert: where would I find this 13GB file

Thanks guys
