Discover Media Navigation software

Oh dear,
You don’t need to keep downloading the 7z file, once you have it on your desktop there it will stay until you delete it.
Are you being a tad impatient, The Unarchiver will take an age to expand and copy over, could well be an hour or so.
The report that when you tried the second time there wasn’t enough room on the SD card makes me think it was partially downloaded before you stopped it and tried again.
Unarchiver must ask you for a destination for the unzipped files so you have missed something along the way.
Sorry I can’t be much more help, if your still stuck send me a pm with your phone number and I will ring you to try and get a better understanding.
Keep smiling, almost there.

Or it sees it as one file and thinks it too big for a FAT file system ??
Could be, although this is the way I update mine, the other option for Tommy is to open a new folder on your desktop and call it Desperate (haha) or similar and direct unarchiver to extract into that folder.
You will then have two folders on desktop 1. Original 7z and 2. Desperate containing the expanded version.
Then it’s simply a case of copying contents of Desperate (not the whole file) onto the SD card
Worth a go I guess?

Listen guys I really appreciate all your efforts here especially being a Bank holiday, I did wait till the file was copied over, took around 15min, took around 1hour to download from VW website so not sure what going on.

PM to follow - thanks NW Pauly

Hi NW, using Mac, downloaded file as instructed (followed VW tutorial video), unzipped, (saved original file from sd card), deleted file from sd card and reinstalled with new download. Nothing, when inserted into radio it didn't recognise anything, so erased and put original back onto sd card, reinserted into radio and still nothing

Hi I did a similar thing, but on investigation I had created an extra tier of folders , maps , maps, data files. To fix I had to move the data files up a tier, ie. maps, data files. After this, all worked as it should. It’s just seems a long cumbersome way, downloading the whole package when probably only a couple of files need updating. I guess that’s what the discovery care application is supposed to but I couldn’t get that to work, hence the full download and manual replacement of maps data.

RB: thanks for sharing your experience, guilty of similar I think

NW & Dilbert: All working fine now, a big thank you to all for the advice, especially Nigel for his time, energy, mobile conversation this evening to help me through the process and rectifying my boo boo and computer illiteracy :)

Still working sweet :) this forum has got some people with lots of invaluable knowledge on tap
Well I can sort out computer updates but I still haven’t been able to get my replacement water softener installed.....and no forums for that!

Yup, I had a look yesterday and still reporting server down.
I have had a trawl on the internet and a German forum says that VW are aware of the issue and are working on it, it is affecting both Mac and Window users and it all went pear shaped when they updated the software to version 1.0.4
so fingers crossed.........

You would think a company as big and ‘professional’ as VW would make it clear that there are two ways of updating the data on the Satnav.
1. Using the VW dicovercare application which makes it is as simple as just plugging the SD card into a slot on your PC and it then just does it all for you (well it did until they broke it with an update).
2. You download the data onto your pc as a compressed file (7z) which you then expand and copy across to the SD card manually with all the inherent problems it causes to newbies and those not used to unzipping and copying.

Hopefully the fix for discovercare is on its way.......

OK got it, thanks Nigel, typical will have to do it the other way

VW: these guys will guide you through any issues along the way - great forum spirit

On another note, I had contacted VW customer care last week when initially I couldn't resolve the issue, they called me back yesterday to try and resolve the problem. Told him that the great guys from the T6 forum sorted the problem over the weekend. Prior to calling me he did say he'd rung the garage in question to get some back ground history and that they'd denied any knowledge of a call regarding sd problem from myself. He was disappointed that they couldn't have rectified the issue for me and that he was going to look at the case and implement some awareness on how to address the issue of sd card updates. I did say that I wasn't sure if they genuinely didn't know or weren't too bothered and just happy to sell me a new sd card

VW dealers could always include in their van manual - "Please refer to T6 forum for expert and knowledgable advice concerning ANYTHING" :D

Once again thanks guys/gals

Hi, is there a particular way to update the map on my sd card.
My T6 was new on 22nd December so I guess I should have an update to make sure it is up to the latest version.

Thanks.

The VW site has been failing updates for the last few weeks so may not be working at the moment doing it the discovercare way but you should still be able to manually download the update (if required) and copy it onto the SD card yourself

I think now the maps on the VW site are the fresh ones. I checked (manual update) the maps on December 16th, 2018, and then the main package for Europe was still the old one (on website still time stamp 04/03/18). Now the packages are different ones.

Even manual download seemed to struggle a bit yestrerday. It didn't start right away - cancelling "stucked" download and restarting it again worked for me. Of cource, the culprit might have been my computer setup (Windows 10, Firefox browser).

Anyways, all fine now by manual download and using OEM VW SD card. No success with third party SD cards (as documented by VW in the last chapter of update instructions). Well, except seems that my POI's are gone - even though they are not on the SD card... I think. Need to look into that...
EDIT: On the list where I "tick" the POI's to be shown on the map, the setting was cleared. So the problem is resolved, nothing was lost.

Here is the version information of new 13.3 Gbyte package European Countries – Bundle 1 (on top left on VW site) - first three lines. On the headunit NAV->Settings->Version Information

Possibly checking the date of main directory on your SD card using a computer) will tell the same:
Maps-directory of old package has date of 19-Jan-2018.
The new maps-directory has date 10-July-2018 (although on the website the package has date stamp of 1-Oct-2018).
