Your screen shot above show 'used' as 7.3 GB on disk. It should be around 13 GB.

As a check, when extracted correctly, you will have a 'maps' folder. Inside that will be 2 folders: '00' and 'EEC'.

Inside '00' are 5 more folders, inside 'EEC' there is one folder 'EEC_WLD' and a file 'PRODUCT.NDS'.

Those look correct. Take a look at this screen shot. It shows where most of the file sizes are allocated.

I noticed that. Not sure if that a MAC thing? Its only a 32 KB file anyway.

Ho hummm, Tommy you said you backed up the card before you started all this, do you still have that file?

Dilbert: I can't open any of the files when clicking on them, they are a XML file which the mac cannot open

NW; think I inadvertently lost/maybe deleted in all the melee with files I've had in the last 24 hours

Just a thought, if I can get hold of a Windows laptop would I be better downloading from VW site using Windows and start from there

Ok, have been out to my truck, in the pouring rain, and got my card.
The size is 14.32 gig
Folder 00 is 13.46 gig and within that the map data in file nds is 12gig
In EES mine shows as archive as well so ignore that.
Tommy - what are your file sizes in these folders?

00 shows 13.22GB and EEC shows 626.8mb, think thats before they've been unzipped
That’s correct, strangely unzipping doesn’t seem to make much difference which has always seemed a bit weird to me. My VW SD card shows 14.32 when fully installed.

Just a thought, with continuously reformatting VW card will it still be recognised as VW card as I think you can't just use any old sd card so maybe not recognising VW bit of card

The VW bit is buried in a deep dark corner so others can’t pirate it to create new cards so formatting won’t touch it.

So when I've downloaded again do I unzip or put straight onto card as is (starting to confuse myself now)

Ok, firstly you format the card to clear everything off it.
When the download has finished and you have the 7z file on your desktop and you are going to unzip it on your desktop using the Unarchiver with the destination set to the SD card.
What should then happen is the Unarchiver will unzip the files and send them directly to the SD card
Then you will look at the SD card see it has 13gig on it, take it to the truck plug it in and it will work!

So....whilst you are waiting for the download to finish.....
open up the application the ‘Unarchiver’ and let’s set up its preferences,
Under the heading Extraction do the following.
On the top box extract archives to - set as ‘Ask for a destination folder’
Create a new folder - set the first option to ‘never’
Third option - set to ‘the current time and date,
the last option after extracting - deselect all boxes so they are empty.

Now when you go to extract the files it will ask you where to send them and you will select the SD card.

Hi NW, update:downloaded first time and trying to put file into VW sd card it got lost somewhere :( downloaded again, went out for a run and fresh air as ready to explode :) still cant get file to go onto sd card, both times when I opened the file withUnarchiver it didn't give an option as to where you wanted to put, I have ticked all the boxes as explained above, anyway couple of screenshots of message when trying to put file into sd card - happy days :)
