New Transporter - first official pic

That is horrific. I know no one buys a van for the looks, but that doesn't mean vw should go out of their way to make it fugly. I mean, why endow the rear with what looks like Hitler's moustache?

We can but pray the tailgate version looks a bit less fussy at the arse end.

It's not much better, tbh.

It's a little cleaner, but that unnecessary high contour and the Hitler moustache still do it no favours.

The rear lights look like a catering size toaster laid on its side - ideal for making quick cheese on toast, not so good for vehicle lighting.

What I hate is, I know it's 'just a van' - but it's a bloody expensive van - and when you look at what VW are doing with thier cars, the new van just seems a bit, cheap... No?

Some may not like the light bar thing but I think it's brilliant - give me a 911 full light bar, mmmmmm - along with the 3d style rear lights. The illuminated badge, maybe not.

It's interesting, at the very least.

Another thing, where are the reversing lights?

The small little white section on both styles of lights is the indicator. Unless it's also the reversing light?

I know someone with a Cupra Formentor and the light bar (just the portion on the boot lid) started misting due to a crack. Dealer not interested in it being a defect with the unit or the car in any way despite no impact damage and the boot being electric indicating it cannot be slammed closed. Affected the indicator eventually and is over £800 for the part (excl VAT and fitting). You can buy salvaged on eBay etc but they all seem to have cracks too!

I’ve also seen a new MG with icicles inside its rear light bar that doubles as the ‘spoiler’.

From experience the T5 high level brake lights (barn door) don’t last forever - main dealer suggests air pressure from closing the doors is what cracks them. I know I haven’t hit them at all (how could you with them being so high and set back from the bumper?) so personally a fancy light bar would be a reason to avoid a vehicle. They look nice but are expensive to fix and it looks as though manufacturers can’t guarantee their longevity.

Just look at how fussy all these panels are.
More angles dips and shapes than a transformers arse.
A million miles away from the straight flat smooth panels on the real transporters.
It has lost its soul
And that’s forgetting the wet belt.
