the unit sits at the bottom . . . . there is a internal flap below the lid than protects the unit from the PSU an plug that you can store at the top of the bag,

there is also a pocket at the top of the lid that worked well to store the extra leads,

im not keen on shoulder straps so ill leave that off for now.

This is my unit:






in the box you get a PSU charger and 13a plug,

PLUS

a 12v car charger lead and MC4 solar input lead - which is nice.






the unit arrives about 50% SOC which is correct for lithium cells.

size wise you can see that it sits in between the ALLPOWER 372 and ECOFLOW 650 units.

one notable thing is its nice and light , , , im wondering if they are using pouch cells internally? (well have to wait for a tear down )

1st test was the good old air pump. - 260W no issues.

next up was hair clippers . . .





and battery hair clippers. . .





we took this unit to Busfest 21, and T6F Autumn Gathering.

it got passed around and used a fair bit.

one popular feature was the wireless charging pad on the top. (im not a fan of these, but thats just me)

loads of people were charging tire phones via the pad,

people with a USB cable were charging tablet and phones.

@czmate1999 was interested to see if it would run my compressor fridge, so we plugged in BOTH fridges via the 240v side and a 4way power lead.

we used the 12v outlet socketq to run our small 300w BESTEK invwerter, which it did . . . but if you tried to pull more than the 8A from the socket (about 100w ish) the unit would shut down.

you cant charge via the USB-C port wich is a shame . . . the max output is 18W, so no IMAC charging.

the input is Charging Port: DC 5.5 x 2.1mm, 12V-25V, 65W max

that applies for SOLAR too via the included lead.

thats a VOC max of 25V.

as long as you stay under the 25V VOC you can over panel the unit.

@czmate1999 connected a 100W Renogy panel to it and got a steady 55w charging.

here is a quick test.

the input is limited to 65W . . . .

so lets see what happens when we over-panel the input . . . .

just remember to stay UNDER the 26V VOC MAX, that means you need to connect panel together in parallel with branch connectors . . . . NOT IN,OUT,IN,OUT series connection

i used a 4 to 1 branch connector like this one. - ANFIL T-type Branch Cable Connectors Coupler Combiner Solar Panel - 1 Male to 4 Female (M/4F) and 1 Female to 4 Male (F/4M) : Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science

now for the testing . . .


First up we have a 160W Flex panel from Photonic Universe . . . . (this will be fitted to the T6 roof one day)

its rated @ 160W with a VOC of 23.9V




connected to the unit . . .

power wise we are charging at around 55W . . . so no issues here.

next up lets go large . . . . 220W.

i have two LENSUN Flex 110W panels. Combined they will generate upto 220W

ill connect then in parallel with the branch connectors.

They are rated at 21.3V VOC max.



connecting both to the branch connectors . . . .





we get this - 220W array.





power wise . . . . again around 55W max.

Conclusion.


The ENGINSTAR is similar to the ALLPOWERS and ECOFLOW, where you can over-panel the solar input.

it will take the max it can from the array, in this case around 55W. - and ignore the rest.

it seems to do this by current limiting the input. ( around 5A )

that means you can add as much solar as you want . . . . BUT you MUST STAY BELOW the max VOC - in this case 25V.

one of the reasons why i chose this unit is that the DC INPUT can take 10v to 145v DC that means that you can use ANY solar panel,

the other non-max unit is locked at 75v mon for solar - meaning you need three 100w panel min to work on solar . . .

plus it has 4x 240v sockets and slightly more power.

Does anyone have any real world experience with this unit now it's been out a little while? I'm looking for something modest (cheap) that will let us keep the Dometic CFX3 fridge powered overnight in the awning. Reckon this little chap should manage for a couple of nights if I've done my maths right.

@hunta it's a brilliant little box that has the Anker quality that we know.

Just been using ours all weekend camping.

200w mains was well enough to run the air pump, fridge, lights, etc etc. While setting up.. then mainly used for USB charging and USB camp lighting.

It's only 270 odd Wh capacity.

So if you want longer run time, look at the 500-600 Wh units.

Bluetti and Ecoflow do them, plus Anker is releasing a new unit with larger capacity soon.
