Stop/Start Not Working

Can only start somewhere buddy , AV noticed you said it was charging at 14.1v bit if the battery is low then it should be around 14.7 am sure and then once it gets around 80% it will drop down to leave room for regen braking , hopefully someone else's will jump in to verify if you should be getn more than 14.1v

Also, I think that as you disconnected the starter battery, the battery monitor needs to see the battery fully charged to be able to decide on its charge status before it will allow start stop to function.

Bloody headache these vans....... hopefully it will clear once battery is fully charged. Don’t fancy any more garage trips,... only fitted the leisure battery myself to save a few pennies for the pop top fund

There are many reason the start stop might not happen, have a read of the attached.

Bit of an update on the stop start error. The vans been in be specialist all day today for diagnostic and investigation..... no errors and nothing untoward found yet the stop start error persists! They suggested taking it back in a month to scan again to see if any errors had been logged. Luckily they didn’t charge me for the work.
I’m absolutely stumped, as are they, as to why nothing could be found with vag com.
The mystery continues......

Have you checked that ALL electric gadgets work?
Is the van 4Motion?

I know on my old mercedes, the start stop function wouldn't work if it was too cold, perhaps VW's are the same, especially with the temps dropping this week?

Yes that’s the odd thing! Everything works as it should except the stop start!
no it’s not 4 motion
Thanks. The 4Motion was just a thought as by disabling 4Motion by removing a fuse triggers, among other things, the start-stop error.

Linking a kind of related threads for future reference - well, mentions of the same start-stop error..

T6 Start-stop works just fine even in cold temperatures.

Latest update is the vans now in the VW van centre, they want to leave the battery on a 12 hour deep discharge charge (or something like that) but apart from that, no errors found and no faults to indicate the cause!
hopefully they can get to the bottom of this but I’m not holding my breath!!! I’ve also asked if they can just disable it permanently but apparently it’s impossible (I know it’s not).

VW can't disable S/S system cause it would change emissions standard that vehicle was certified to.
Which is funny cause they were cheating on emissions (in very sophisticated way) in the past.

Nope, got it back from VW tonight. Everything checks out, battery fine, battery monitor fine. No errors to suggest what’s causing this.
I disconnected the earth from the leisure battery tonight in case that was somehow causing some interference.

one thing I have noticed is that every third or fourth time I turn it on the system starts to work (I get the A with the cross through it) however after about 30 seconds the error message appears?

Thanks for the suggestions mmi. Sadly the errors persist. Infotainment system works fine as far as I can tell.

The only other non-standard item which might affect the electrics is a Ghost immobiliser which was fitted last year - everything was working ok after that was fitted. The stop-start was working after I disconnected the vehicle battery during the solar panel fitting too.

Looking at the links you sent, there are some continuity tests I can try. I was shocked when dealer suggested removing dash! Vehicle less than three and a half years old.

Hey @Erbster, I wonder if you managed to get to the bottom of this?

I recently added something like Ghost immobiliser but more custom made. The start-stop error message only showed up after the installation of the immobiliser device and now it shows up every time I start the engine.

Last night I took out the batter to do reconditioning using Ctek. The voltage improved from 12.8V to 13.1V. Would you know if this Voltage level is sufficient enough to support the Start-Stop?

I'm so confused - if it was down to the immobiliser - I would be getting this error every time. But I managed to drive couple of days with start-stop working as normal, then it stopped.

When I connect the computer, there are no errors - so nothing to clear.

Any tips and pointing me to the direction of next checks or possible faults would be greatly appreciated.

FYI,,
Got it fixed under warranty.
Turned out to the battery module.
Think its the one that measures batter voltage.

Thanks! I'm glad you got it fixed.

I'm thinking to give it a go with a different battery to eliminate the battery itself from the "error equation" ;)

I have not been able to fix the problem - I need to identify a good local vag electrical specialist to have a look. The van is running just fine (apart from stop/start obvs) - it’s my daily drive. As I don’t drive much in heavy traffic, I don’t much miss the stop start.

Thanks for the update... I'll try connecting a different battery see if that could be to problem.

Otherwise, will try disabling the immobiliser I added to see if that's any different... if it keeps throwing the error after both above options, I'll try and think of some other ideas. I'll keep you posted ;)

Must be the season for it! Mine started with the same Error - Stop/Start a few seconds after engine on a few days ago. I did wire in a dashcam 10 days or so before, although it was fine up until a couple of days ago. I've switched off 'parking mode' on the dashcam to see if that has anything to do with it, though it does have a battery monitor on the hard-wire kit. Will see if the error goes after a couple of days.

My man!!! You just gave me an idea... same day I i stalled the immobiliser, I connected my dash cam to the OBD port... I’ve just disconnected the dash-cam and BAM! Problem gone!!! No more start-stop error!
