What does extended warranty cover?

Hi guys,

Question for those of you that have the extended warranty...did you receive anything in writing or verification of it? As I extended it in the day of purchase but till now have not heard or received anything as confirmation and the van is 1yr old in May.

Thanks in advance!

I'm in a similar situation. I spoke to VW, they confirmed it isn't policy to provide paperwork. After a bit more chasing they sent over a screenshot of my van's entry on their system (Elsa Pro).

That should suffice, I hope, but I'm still surprised that their isn't automatic paperwork for something like this. I'm not expecting a mounted scroll, with wax and gold leaf, but some kind of official, tangible proof would be nice.

I've been given the run-around for almost two weeks solid trying to organise this 2yr/80k extended warranty.
VW clearly state on their website: "Our warranties are competitively priced and are easy to arrange with your local Van Centre".
Commercial Vehicles Warranties | VWCV
In fact its far from "easy to arrange" and my local van centres have been no help whatsoever
I've spoken to five centres now and every one of them claims no knowledge of a "Factory Extended Warranty", and say that they have never supplied one.
They each refer me back to VW who refer me back to my local van centres, and the process repeats.
Ron at Hillside Leisure gave me the base van suppliers details, Imperial Commercials in Derby. I tried to arrange the Factory Extended Warranty with Imperial but again they claim no knowledge and that if there is such a thing, it would have to be done by VW finance. Why VW finance?
According to the VW website I have 90 days from first registration to apply, which I thought would be plenty of time. I'm now concerned that 35 days into ownership I still havent found anyone within the VW organisation or its dealership who has a clue what I'm talking about
I'm baffled as to how can their entire network be unaware of a product widely promoted by VW themselves!

hi guys i did take a extended warranty out when i got my new transporter in oct 2016 its now about 15 months old with 39,000 miles on it !! so if i do the same miles in the next 15 months my extended warranty is dead money as it only goes as far as 80,000 miles !!

From memory you had different options on mileage. Sure there was an option for 120,000

yes i guess there was a option , but at the time i did only think there was a limit of 80,000 miles ,does any one know if i can get another extended warrany , when my motor gets 80,000 miles on it !!

I emailed VW Customer Services last week explaining everything thats been said here, and the lack of progress with any of the six van centres I'd called.
Two days later I had a reply email with a link, which basically pointed me back to the "3 year old van extension" which when you enter a 2018 registration plate, immediately rejects your application. Back to square one, I replied expressing some disappointment. Today I had a phone call from Louise at VW Customer Services, she explained that it does have to be done via a VW van centre, and promised to speak to York JCT and to get them to call me and organise everything. We shall see! Louise also said she'd call back on Thursday to confirm the extended warranty has been done. This whole saga is amusing in a way but 90 days isnt that long when you're swimming in treacle!

Wonder if there is no commisson in it for the salesman hence the reluctance to do the work.

Apparently the dealer has to pay £17.00 to get the warranty extension. I was told that today at VWCV dealers. Maybe that's why some are reluctant.

I suspect that there is no commission to be made on the factory warranty extension as it is super-cheap compared to those sold in the aftermarket.

I had a lengthy conversation with VW Customer Services who promised to sort it immediately with JCT York,
so thought I'd give them a chance, but a week later, still no call from York and no further emails from VWCS,
and I was about to start all over again with Scunthorpe, when chap called Andy Williams rang from Sheffield JCT.
Eureka, Andy knows all about extended warranties and it transpires that they had supplied the van to Hillside
so he already had all the van details! He says its a simple process and cant understand why VW and so many
of their dealers were unable to sort it! Hopefully should be sorted by close of play today :)

Edit: Wahoo! we have an extended warranty!

Got mine through jct at York. The salesman actually encouraged me to take it.....dead straight forward. Can't understand why there's no paperwork though?

Glad it is finally sorted. Shouldn' t have been such a run around though

I'm yet to talk service plans and additional warranty after the 3 year period. However I have always had AA Breakdown Repair Parts and Labour Cover. Covers you upto £500 on any repairs unto 5 times a year (£35 excess) I cannot fault it, they have always paid out if we've had an issue. Only thing they don't cover is brakes and clutch parts obviously. Good cover for peace of mind.
