What does extended warranty cover?

I've been given the run-around for almost two weeks solid trying to organise this 2yr/80k extended warranty.
VW clearly state on their website: "Our warranties are competitively priced and are easy to arrange with your local Van Centre".
Commercial Vehicles Warranties | VWCV
In fact its far from "easy to arrange" and my local van centres have been no help whatsoever
I've spoken to five centres now and every one of them claims no knowledge of a "Factory Extended Warranty", and say that they have never supplied one.
They each refer me back to VW who refer me back to my local van centres, and the process repeats.
Ron at Hillside Leisure gave me the base van suppliers details, Imperial Commercials in Derby. I tried to arrange the Factory Extended Warranty with Imperial but again they claim no knowledge and that if there is such a thing, it would have to be done by VW finance. Why VW finance?
According to the VW website I have 90 days from first registration to apply, which I thought would be plenty of time. I'm now concerned that 35 days into ownership I still havent found anyone within the VW organisation or its dealership who has a clue what I'm talking about
I'm baffled as to how can their entire network be unaware of a product widely promoted by VW themselves!

LOL....... I feel your pain. im having similar fun and games with my local dealer.

went back in again about it the other day....

the sales guy printed out all the (in house) bits to look into it......

hes saying its:

£329 for years 4 and 5. BUT upto 80k max - or whatever comes first.....

or

£649 for years 4 and 5. BUT upto 150k max - or whatever comes first.....

it seems there is a lot of confusion as the dealer paperwork seems to compare the "factory extended warranty" to 3rd party insurance . . . . .he was saying "oh there is a £200 excess"..... and "its a £2500 max claim per item" - my reply was "no there isnt - its a factory warranty with NO excess or max limit"

but i think he was getting confused and that the paperwork was supposed to be a sales pitch to encourage selling the VW warranty at £329 or £629 (by comparing it to a stand alone 3rd party warranty)

i also saw that the "commission" for the dealer was £40 . . . . . . . so maybe not that encouraging for the dealers to offer.

its a no brainer for me @ £329 for years 4/5 (upto 80K) . . . . if it realy IS a extended warranty . . . . . but ended up leaving the dealer AGAIN with nothing in place.

hopefully next time ill be able to nail them down and get it arranged........................................

I have just arranged an extension to 5 years through Eurovans in Crawley. Very helpful and informative, with no problems. Hoping it will all actually be unnecessary of course.

Finally sorted out the extended warranty.

£329+vat for additional 24months (years 4 & 5) up to 80k miles max.

done over the phone with our local dealer. it took 60days out of the allowed 90days to get it arranged.

hopefully the dealer will now offer it out to everyone.

That’s a real bargain! That’s less than price of one injector. Up here in Finland the extension is about 1200€ (years 3, 4, 5, as the factory warranty is only 2 years). But it was arranged in less than a minute! :D

I took the extended warranty (I had to ASK for it!) and the service pack at time of purchase - no brainers, imho. Puzzled that the dealer did not mention them, though.

Anyone know the price to extend the warranty when coming to the end of the 3 years?

Yeah expensive, if you want to keep full cover it’s £500-600 per year
Considering it’s less than 400 to make it 5 years at the start think it’s rather pricey
You do have the option to cover selected components only (engine/gearbox etc) and it comes down to around £300-400 which is slightly better

That’s why I put a range on the price they are approximate prices with/without excess but the system calculates a price based on VRN and mileage so will differ a bit but that’s the ball oark figures it quoted me

Its a no brainer for the likes of a Cali as it covers everything. Max 80k over five years though, and after three years if you need to use on holiday in Europe you need to pay for the repairs then claim when your back in the UK.

Hi we were asked about taking up the extended warranty when we collected our T6 Kombi but the option is only available for 3 months after purchase date. We did not take up the option as we have bought our van on a 3 year pcp and Will be handing it back.

Mines just past 2 years old and was bought as delivery mileage pre-reg fleet vehicle based on current configurater prices I saved 10k. I never held the log book for 9 months, therfore I never got the option to extend the factory warranty.
I’ll start my enquiries at the local VW commercials place and hope it’s doesn’t eat too much into the savings I got from new.

I've just replaced discs and brake pads all round. Is the warranty supposed to cover this ? Can't imagine it would?

No warranty does not cover consumables like discs and pads

Is it generally the van salesmen or the service department that I should approach for quotes on factory extended warranties and service agreements. I have emailed my local dealer & nobody has bothered to get back to me, so I plan to call into speak to them. I just wonder which department I should speak to.

I wonder if they are not interested as I used a broker to buy the van.

If my local dealer won't respond am I ok approaching other dealers, or does any ultimate service & warranty work need to be carried out by the dealer who signs me up, in which case I need to be local

Theres no 'comparing quotes' as such, its a fixed price. All the details are on the VW website but it seems you do need someone who knows, it took me ages to find that one person - in my case it was Andy Williams from Sheffield JCT. It doesnt need to be a local dealer, just one that knows his stuff - and it has no bearing on where the van is serviced etc. You'll save yourself masses of frustration, emails & phonecalls , if you go straight to Andy or any of the other recommended dealers in this thread ;)

Hi
Has anybody had any recent experiences with VW regarding extending their manufactures warranty?
More specifically is there anyone out here from the Isle of Man that knows who will extend the warranty as VW are refusing for Isle of Man residents.
I have a T6 Transporter LWB with only 27k on clock. I have all the paperwork and original registration so looking for a company or product that will cover me for an extended warranty.

Cheers

The factory extended warranty is to be purchased within 12 weeks of vehicle registration :

info : extended warranty anyone?

other members have chosen 3rd party extended warranty if they could not get the Factory warranty.

The manager at my local VW Van Centre hadn't got a clue about the extended warranty! He had never heard of it. Got it in the end though.
Out of time would have been the reason I suppose because as far as I could see it was EU wide.
