What Have You Bought Today?

Just ordered OEM sliding window and a solid one for a day camper conversion.

Petro, as the owner of a conversion with one sliding window behind the hob/sink I'm considering changing the fixed/solid window in the sliding door to a sliding window. Sliding window's behind the hob often mean you have to put your arm across a heat source/cooking pan to open/shut/adjust the window which is behind a lifted glass hob lid. I accept it's marginally better if the window is behind the sink but not much better. To ventilate the van while using the hob and even just to open a window it's much easier to operate one in the sliding door which usually has nothing to obstruct operation. Two sliding windows would seem to be the best setup.
I'm going to look at this once lockdown lifts, although the last thing I want to do is exchange a less than perfect but but watertight set up for a perfect but leaky setup : -)

Edit to add : If anyone has done this I'd be be grateful for any comments, is it straight forward to remove a fitted window and replace it?

Yea I've actually thought about this when watching videos of full campers. We're not fitting a kitchen unit, the sliding window is mainly for ventilation and for the dog if she's left in the vehicle.

Lightning Leisure awning rail & S+S tarp awning bought today - really hoping tarp awning will slide easily into awning rail. Want to figure it out before awning rail installed under roof rails next week.

@kurienp. For what it's worth, when the rack is dropped onto the tow ball, there's a little bit of movement in it until you lock it down. Although I doubt if it would be enough 'extra tilt' to enable opening the tailgate, it's a bit of a moot point anyway as you can't lock the handle down unless the rack is more or less level. If you leave it unlocked and handle up, the handle gets in the way of the tailgate. Does that make sense?

@Ayjay - this may be good news for your ears - a user posted this information on the VWCalifornia Forum - Change the standard tow ball (hook) for a Nissan Juke (75kg) or a Opel Signum (80kg)- and that helps move the cycle rack away from the van, helping to open the tailgate without any mods to the carrier rack or the tailgate. See more here - We Connect - just sharing this

I may have to buy 1, as the latest camp site we have booked for the back end of 2021 has no showers.

They emailed this:

"We spoke on the phone regarding you stay. I have penciled the booking in. £20 per night on the CL and await your membership number, no rush. Just drop me an email and your dates and I will add it in for you. Price per night inclusive is £20, that’s EHU, Water and grey waste.

Kind Regards

Rachel

Please note: I see you are in a VW Camper – Please be aware we do not have showers."
What’s the issue John, I’ve 3 weeks in a jungle, water and towel will do you just fine ha ha

Wet wipes will do the trick, apparently.
A trip to Costco to bulk buy is required, me thinks!!

Tracker stickers.....obviously not as good as the real thing - but for a couple of quid, if there's a chance it will stop one low life, its money well spent

I have an actual Tracker in my van - I asked them if there were any stickers - I was advised not to put any on as if it were to be stolen they might pull it apart looking for one - just a thought...

Also - thieves might see it is a double bluff so target it!! Though technically it's not a double bluff is it? Confusing myself...

Sorry, just passing on what I was told, no doubt others would say different

I did think that, but thought the stickers had more chance of stopping an opportunist thief than if it didn't have one
Plus, if it did get stolen I dont think I'd want it back once its recovered after some dirt ball has had it so any damage trying to find a tracker wouldn't matter

Generally the tactic is to leave the vehicle somewhere for 48hrs to see if it’s got a tracker. After that time it’s presumed there isn’t one and it’s sold/exported/broken for parts/reg cloned and used in crime

I wouldn’t want a van back after it’s been nicked or crashed! Years ago, I stuck my car (pride and joy) in a wall...asked recovery chap if he thought it was repairable as he dragged it onto his truck....”Definitely!” he said....so, I slipped him £20 to drop the car off the truck heavily so I wouldn’t see it again!!!

Na! I’ve been looking into water jets since your bath suggestion for the multipurpose ”dead deer bag”! I’m thinking mobile jacuzzi!

Hmmm! In case of multiple occupants can they use wet wipes first?!!!

@JasonW Not quite there yet. It is not straight forward to set up as the App has to be sent from Ablemail and downloaded to PC then copied to phone (I am using Android) also the default settings are for AGM and I want to set it up for Lithium. I am waiting for a screenshot of settings from Ablemail. To be fair I don't think Covid is helping with communications. Once it connected by Bluetooth it did show the state of both batteries and there are a lot of optional settings available. P.S. I am using it with an AMS 12-12-30. I will keep you informed
Hi Jason do you have a link for the ablemail battery bluetooth monitor I got mine today but struggling to set up
Regards Mark
