AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Does anyone know what the process actually involves with an EGR flush? How is it done and what's involved?

Duno what VW do.....

But for it to be done properly it needs removing and soaking..

Have a quick look here for an idea....

.

I think a "flush" might be a carb cleaner type spray that may or not help......
But defo wont clean like removing.

After degreasing a weak caustic soda solution or oven cleaner will do it but test on a piece of scrap aluminium to make sure have the correct strength and don’t dissolve the EGR body.

So, as per many others on here I had the 600 mile warning suddenly appear after jumping from 3500 miles I topped up the Adblue (have to say my display always stated Min 1.00 Max 1.25 regardless - perhaps should have been alarm bells)

Anyway with the Adblue topped up the 30 second reset did not remove the orange light or reset the levels so out comes VW assist.

Took the panels off underneath the Adblue tank and hit it, drained 3 litres of Adblue to make sure there is an air gap (apparently needed) and a full regen.

And...…………….Nothing still on the 600 countdown

My VW garage said - see you on the 8th July when they are free (I am due to be away next week with my 3 year old in it)

VW Technical unfortunately can't make it today but will come and see me at work on Monday - so still broken.

Ok I was told the Adblue had pigs piss in it - visions of how they extract that are not important but was also told only use good quality Adblue - ?????

nightmare . . . . . keep us posted.

great pics BTW =]

Cheers @Dellmassive currently monitoring the situation, I’m in warranty till Feb 2021 if I need to put more pressure on them when the fault occurs again.

@Dieseldonkey the dealers have a machine that they hook up to the egr, I believe it’s similar to the terraclean method. This is done without removing the EGR, each time the EGR pipe at the front of the engine bay is replaced along the the bolts/gaskets.

Pipe in question;

Had the same problem which left me stranded abroad for four days.
The fix took less than an hour once dealer got on to it.
Surely if vw dealer cant / won't look at it then vw assist should be sorting a replacement van till it is.
Try vw customer care?
Hope you get it sorted soon. I have had no issue with this fault or engine management light again since software update about 2.5 k ago. Does seem to be using more adblue.

Just to add, AA tech who was called out told me on the phone before arriving that he would not be able to fix this issue.
Can vw assist ot send out a vw tech?
I'd be going mental!

Hi thanks for your input - out of interest what was your trigger do you think? - I am sure mine just reached top up level for Adblue.

VW Tech are due to look on Monday - I’ll give an update - there is obviously a common sender tank issue here.

Everyone else I know with Adblue - Not VW get the warning light drop on 10 litres or so and off they go.

I set off abroad with 3k range showing, intentionally did not top up as I wondered if doing so was contributing to my ongoing EML saga.
80 miles in to journey range dropped from 3k to 650 miles with warning light on. No trigger I can think of and would not recognise filling. Software issue, not sure if my major long awaited software update has affected this issue or not.

Urban myth that Adblue contains pig psss, it’s manufactured artificially. As far as I’ve read, the software update wasn’t to fix problems currently being experienced by some, but to lower emissions, to get VW out of trouble, by increasing consumption of Adblue

It's a urea solution that is used as the catalysing agent.......when the Euro 4 truck engines were being developed the local press to the engine factory in Darlington said we were using sheep pi$$ (obviously urine does contain urea which is why the paper used that term to bump up sales). Regarding quality, in the early days (Euro 4 truck engines) you could just fill up with water - did nothing for the emissions but saved some operators a lot of money! The tanks now have a sensor to get around this 'cheat'.

I had the EML 5 times in one year / 11 k and was told throughout by dealer and VWCC - we're waiting for software update to fix this, which it appears it has.
What was the issue with emissions on the T6?

All sounds very familiar hmmm

UPDATE
**********************************************

So setting off on 12o mile drive today where I was going to meet VW assist, low and behold 30 miles into my journey and I noticed the orange adblue light had gone out!!!!! Self fixed, I decided to still let VW assist make an appearance - they agreed there were still some codes that needed clearing, so now fingers crossed and case closed for now!!

It did clear to 6000 miles but then at the end of the 12o miles it dropped to 5500 - what is the most anyone has had off a full adblue tank range ?

Picked up the van this afternoon this time the problem was with the EGR its had a flush and now feels much better! The next few weeks will tell - Scotland here we come in a fortnight or so!
Whisper it quietly but we have just completed a 3 week 2200 mile trip up to and around Northumbria & Scotland and happy to say the van didn't miss a beat. No adblue issues and great economy from some very mixed driving !

Hey...can I add to this thread...I’ve got a new T6 and have done 2000miles and the adblue warning light has just come on.....is this a normal amount of usage? Seems quick.

I’ve used 30litres in 16k miles thats 560miles per litre.
Depending on how much was in the initial fill of yours makes it difficult to guess.

I am sure you have read all the warnings about over filling so my tip is to change the display units to one of the metric options and then the adblue screen will give you the minimum and maximum in litres and remember to leave this ignition on for 30seconds and check the adblue level has reset before starting.

I didn't get my first adblue warning until I had done approx 5000 miles so it seems a bit quick but depends how much was in the tank to start with I guess.
