AdBlue Discussion and Issues

I always fill mine up to overflowing on my VW's and Ford's for years and have never had a problem so your "master tech " is talking cobblers
But he has had quite a few in his dealership with this issue and your advice is based on a survey of ........ 1

I've not had to top up the van yet, but with the Tig, once it's down to just under 1000miles left, I put about 7-8 litres in it. No problems so far apart from the filler being in the boot floor. I've made a funnel from a pop bottle with the bottom cut off, which does the trick.

I wait unril the warning flashes up, I think it's at 1400 miles left, then at my earliest convenience stick 10 litres in, I use halfords stuff, you get 2 10litre tubs for £20, that brings my range back up to between 5500 and 6000 miles. Never had an issue doing it this way and keeping within the maximum fill amount on the display. I know 3 people who fill to the brim and have all had trips to the dealers on low loaders with adblue related issues. Do as the manual instructs and I doubt you'll have a problem.

Ultrasonic transducers work by measuring the air gap between the face of the transducer (sensor) & the surface of the liquid. The transducer needs a minimum gap otherwise it gets “confused” & looses its datum. That’s why you’re not supposed to overfill.

Hi all this is my first post.
Collected my 18 month old T6 150 from Marshalls Bridgwater Van centre on 09-06-19. I live in Nottingham but didn't mind driving down to collect the van as they did me a very good deal and the van is immaculate.
The day after collecting the van the Adblue range dropped from 6000 miles to 650 with faults. Booked it in at Imperial Nottingham under warranty.
They did a software update and replaced the Nox sensor, this took them five days.
Fault returned five days later. Back to Imperial who are now in their fourth week trying to sort the problem.

They have stripped the system down and replaced various parts but still cant sort it.
Anyone else had similar problems?

Hi everyone, just signed up, so hello all.

I have a T6 about 15 months old. Bought brand new from the dealer. Its got the DSG.
Been pretty happy overall, but have to get a new console into the DSG about 3 months after I bought it.
I have 78,000 KM on the clock and serviced at the dealer every 20,000 KM

About 2 week ago my adblu dropped from 4500 KM range to 1000 KM and got the adblu warning + the wrench symbol also.
After driving for another bit, the adblu range went back to 4,500 KM range.

Then it happened again last week and the engine light also came on. It wasn't due for a service for another 2000 KM, but I put it in early and told them about the adblu issue.
This was Monday of this week. When I picked it up Monday evening, he told me they needed to update the software.......
I checked the adblue range on the way out of the garage. and it said 9,500KM!! never got it that high before. Called the dealer and he said they would have reset it and filled it up.

I then noticed it went to 10,000 KM range on Tuesday!! This is great I thought.
This morning Wednesday, the engine light came back on. Called the dealer and said call over with it and they will check it out. This evening on way home the Adblu warning came on along with the wrench symbol and it dropped to 1000 KM range.

Sorry for the long rant, but wondering if there is a known fix for this issue?

Fairly new from a T5 4M to a 17 plate T6 4M.
It's a 150hp with 18k miles.
Not due a service and still getting used to the differences.

Done just 1000 miles in two months since getting it. Ad-blue was topped up and registering 5k mile range. But after doing just the 1k miles it now says 1000 mile ad-blue range and top up?!
Ok so I'm on the Pembrokeshire coast and nearest motorway is 2hrs away so I'm getting most of my journeys ending with the fans on, presumably cooling exhaust after being part way through a regen??

I do get the odd chance to thrash it but not many so I'm getting about 20mpg and by the looks of it, flying through ad-blue.

My 160k mile 170 T5 2.5 4M did about 26mpg. Was hoping for about the same.

Sooo....
Haven't looked at remap yet as it's got 12mths warrant left but starting to wonder if I should do it sooner rather than later.
Am I right in thinking my 150hp is the same power unit and ancillaries as the 204? And if so, what is the best power map for mix of power and fuel economy?

My T5 was a 130 and Pendle agent recommended 170. Can't say it was much better on fuel but I only had to tickle the peddle so it was a big improvement. MY T5 still really flies compared to my newer T6 so would welcome peoples experiences with modern regens, ad-blue and if a remap would help my rural only driving use would help in this respect.

Cheers all... ;)

Took mine in for a service test and just had the recall done for the adblue software issue, apparently it drops from say 3000 to 600 in one go, never happened on mine but they are doing them all, they update the software to stop it happening but then tell you it will use more adblue so they are giving you a sheet to get signed that gives you 8 free adblue top ups from any VW dealer.

I’ll be letting mine drop to as low as I dare let it to get maximum free fill ups

Have a look at this thread mate, they are doing a recall Adblue Issue!

Out of interest how much did it say you should put in? Against the 10 litres. When I was on the 600m countdown I couldn't get 10 litres in.

The MFD said top up 1.5-2.5 Gall. I'd let it go down to 900 miles range prior to top up, so I could be confident of getting a whole 10 litres in. I'd read the other threads that warned of overfilling, and didn't want to estimate 3/4 of a 10 litre tub, or cart around 2 litres of p1ss in the back of the van for a month or so. It took the whole 10 litres, didn't come close to overflowing, and couldn't even see the level looking down the filler spout. It was nowhere at all near brimmed. About 1500 miles later, MFD still showing 5K miles range.

That's my plan

Back in to VW today 4 th time being checked in 6 weeks - EML on nothing found sensor and jet checked sent on my way so waiting for it to come in again!!

My Adblu was topped up a few weeks ago, & currently reading 4000miles remaining but it’s been saying that with out change since top up. The spanner & Adblu warning has flashed up for a few seconds twice in the last few weeks saying only 650 miles to go but then disappears within a few seconds. When I check on the display it still says 4000. Is this the software glitch? Emissions control lamp is on permanently too.
2017 T6 dsg150 HL. 26k miles.
