AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Thanks for the quick reply, put my mind at easy It does seem quite a common issue.

Is it worth constantly resetting codes or just leave the warning light on?

Being as it could be 5 weeks until it gets looked at it it worth buying some egr cleaner and spraying it into air intake? Or would that be a waste of time and money.

I'd leave the codes as VW will need them to authorise the warranty work for any repairs/replacements that may be required.

Your within warranty so I wouldn't bother with any additives, chances are they wont help.

It's most likely to be EGR/ DPF related which will need some spanner work.

Let VW take the van in and fix it.

I've heard there maybe a possible software tweak on certain Van's to help with this symptom.

I’m currently suffering the same problems I’ve had P0401 twice since I bought my van. It went into the dealers back in November and again in February. On both visits the EGR was flushed, and a pipe replaced.

The dreaded engine light appeared again on Friday morning, VW assist came out and once again.. P0401. Van dropped off at dealers until it’s sorted. Anything other than a EGR replacement and I’ll be even more cheesed off with it than I am now.

not mine this time, but a colleague

last friday his adblue light came on with 650 miles left in tank, so refilled in the yard, BUT, filled to the brim out of our adblue electric pump, to the point of overflow

ever since then, the adblue light stays on and keeps stating 650 miles left in tank, even though he has really brimmed it

is there a way to get it to reset, or is a back to vw to get to recalibrate??

bit of an urgent reply needed as he has to do a 800 mile round trip in the next few days??

thanks
kris

He should have followed the quantities shown on the display, I believe there's a level/quality sensor at the top of the tank somewhere and by overfilling it the sensor gets clogged up/flooded.

Dealer trip I think.

thanks colin

is it an issue to drive it like that, or will it still be ok

It'll be fine, but if the mileage is still counting down on the adblue then when he gets to zero it won't start.

There are people on here that have filled up using a pump on a garage forecourt without issue, I suppose it just depends when the pump cuts out when the tank is full.

My van is showing 1500 miles and started the bing bong thing this morning, there's a min and max amount shown, fill it to those levels, turn the ignition on for 30 seconds and then it should all reset as per the manual.

I fill up at garage forecourt pumps, but I don't wait for an automatic shut off, I just put in what it says I need and then stop

As above (@Insert Coin) . . .

See here for more info . . . .

The only other thing you could try is....

1. As per the user guide try switching the ignition on (but not starting the engine) for a couple of minutes to see if the level sensor picks up the new level.

Or

2. Try at battery reset. (Disconnect negative battery lead) for 15mins to reset the computers..... then when reconnected switch ignition on and wait for a few mins again.....hopefully it will re register the new level.

Pretty sure if it counts down, when it gets to 600miles to go the van won't start so probably a good idea to get it sorted asap.

After reading the horror stories on here, I always fill from the pump with the quantity shown on the MFD and I've never it let it cut off automatically.

You can drive till it drops to 0..... at which point it wont start....

You can call VW assist... they may be able to siphon some out.

not sure, never done that yet . . . . (but im assuming thats what VW may do to get back down to a measurable level?)

Siphon out 2 litres, then turn on the ignition and leave it without starting for at least 30 seconds and see if it resets.

thats the next step in a while

any idea if it works?, or has been done before?
not looking forward to the taste of pig pi55 in my gob to be honest lol :)

Morning all..

I’m having ongoing problems with the EGR valve on my MY18 204ps tdi. Just for a bit of background, I use my kombi everyday and it does plenty of long journeys with my heavy foot.

I’ve had the yellow eml light come on three times since I bought the van in September last year. Each time I’ve had vw assist out and the van has gone into the dealers. The fault code is always P0401.

The van has had an EGR flush in Dec 18, Feb 19 and June 19. Surely this isn’t acceptable and the dealer should be changing the valve? I’m interested to hear where other members have had their EGR replaced? I have also opened up a case with VWCV customer care for what it’s worth..

Seems like your doing the right thing... report it to VW, let them try to fix it. . . . . . . report to VWCV UK etc etc etc.

There are many reports of EGR related issues, some genuine due to blocked EGR Valves due to many short journeys etc and soot/carbon build up.

But there are many also that dont seem to make sense . . . . like yours that has good mileage and long runs.

so is it related to the EGR valve, pressure sensor or the ECU map? . . . . so far its unclear but i have heard a rumor of a ECU software update that may address the issues? . . . . . which would imply that the current software map may be a bit trigger happy in generating the fault code?

either way your doing the right thing and keep passing it back to VW for a fix.

with some pressure you may be able to push for a warranty replacement on the EGR valve via VWCV UK.

Wee bit different, but I had engine management light 5 times in 11 000 miles. Scr / nox issue. Had the software update a couple of thousand miles ago and no faults logged since. 150 manual, 2018

Had the EML stay on whilst I was in Spain.
Dropped into a local VW main dealer there at 5 pm tohopefullymakean appointment for the next day.

0900 next day, van was taken in, fault diagnosed, software updated, and forced regen was done twice to get the figures where they needed to be.
Later that afternoon, collected and so far (@1k miles later), so good. Runs as sweet as a peach.
Customer service with this non Spanish speaking Brit was really excellent.

Background 2017 102T28, with 18 k miles now. I regularly do a mix of journeys, but always do 4x motorway runs at pace each week.

I have since been advised however to steer clear of cheap diesel, Shell being recommended as the best for the money.
