Turn off Stop / Start

Firstly, thanks very much Roman, I carried out your solution last weekend and like you said it works like a charm. If you’re finding it frustrating Freddy I’d definitely recommend following Roman’s instruction, it took me about an hour and totally solved the problem. It’s as if the switch just “stays pressed” rather than re-setting itself every trip. My T6 is also Australian, does anyone else find the fact that in the R/H drive models your left hand hides the illuminated gear stick selections, anyone found a way round this ? a R/H drive version of the facia would be LOVELY !!!

Just read this and I would be keen to know fuel consumption comparison. I also don't think as a forum of mainly diesel van owners that we should be promoting this disablement of a feature that helps reduce pollution.

Just my view, but I like it when it cuts out as it gives me satisfaction that the planet isn't getting so chocked for a few seconds. Every little helps. Also, it takes a split second to restart the engine so is it really that much of an issue for folks?!

Is yours a manual or DSG?

I agree, much prefer mine going off at a standstill, but mine is a DSG which suits this function perfectly, I can see it being less desirable with a manual, you don't want it dying when you push the clutch in if you haven't stopped!

If you push the clutch even as soon as you stop it starts instantly again so no drama!

Manual and don’t have an issue with it at all. To be fair I may be more used to it than most as owned several new VWs over the years with it so that may be a factor?! I put it into gear and it starts and I move. No drama

I'd totally agree with you in a manual, my previous manual was no issue with start/Stop.

Try using it in a DSG and you will see exactly why people want it switched off. It boarders on dangerous in my opinion.

It doesn’t wait until the vehicle stops. My other vw’s have but the van can cut when coasting.

Regarding saving the environment, I brought this up previously.....

I’m sure a lot will be ditching their plastic wrapped Wagu burgers from Aldi after reading this...:cautious:

Mmm nothing like a nice piece of celery on the bbq and a nice glass of probiotic carrot and broccoli juice to wash it down. Yummy

Ah right, I don't do manuals so was just guessing if this may be the reason why some on here are dead against it. I think you may be right that it is something you have to get used to, all the 4 wheeled vehicles I've had since 2011 have had stop-start and I can remember it being a little unnerving at first but now I wouldn't like to drive something that didn't stop the engine when stationary. I did do some early experiments with a few tankfuls with it turned off and it was only about 1mpg worse, which admittedly isn't much, but I suppose it depends on the type of driving you do.

Strange, exactly the opposite to my opinion, it works without issue in my DSG and in my car. Certainly if it cut out while coasting then that's a serious fault and not how it should be working and I'd be round at the dealer like a shot, but I've never had that experience in 7yrs of driving stop/start vehicles

Mine doesn't cut out prematurely, but it takes too long to re-start if you want to pull out of a busy junction or roundabout. I don't think this is a fault, rather a characteristic of start/stop on an automatic.

Nope, mine doesn't do that. I did have a Mk5 GTI in 2005 that had the first gen DSG though and that did that in a terrifying way. A software update improved things and the later version I had in an A5 was almost flawless. Not a hint of it in my T6 though, yours does sound like a warranty issue.

I have a new t6 and this is my first post in this forum.
I cannot judge on the merits of the start stop feature because I have no credible data about the total environmental or economic impact of it. My initial thought was that there might be a combination motor/generator used as alternator and starter that was constantly engaged and no additional wear would occur when used repeatetly as starter motor. But that seems not to be the case and a conventional starter is used. Therefore I am rather sceptical about extra wear.
I live in a rural area and the engine cut out is only seldom happening. It is however unsettling for me and stressful.
I have implemented Romans mod because I really like that it does not just kill off that system but effectively changes the default setting to off. I wished this could be done via the setting menu.

Hi all i went into
61 battery reg
Adaption 13
Changed to 002066
Using vag-com/vcds

Works fine in my 2018 t6 Australian version,
Still has start stop indicator with line through on instruments
but i can live with that.

I just tested this and it seems to be good, just need to do a long drive to fully confirm.
Battery Regulator - Adaption channel 13
Any chance to check “Available Battery Charge” in "Adv. Meas. Values" of the controller (61) before and after the test drive.

As changing a seemingly temperature related parameter I’m curious to see if battery charge state is affected.
