AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Just stick with what I know! Evidently the adblue consumption increases with the update also.
Yes, from the information that I could gather, the sole purpose of the update is to increase the usage of Adblue as the engines didn’t meet the standards necessary (dieselgate). That was why they agreed to give out free Adblue

i had to do my first adblue fill last week, filled from a pump in Germany (about a third of the price of a plastic container). filled it to the click, which was slightly more than it said was needed on MFD..getting back in, I forgot about the 30 second rule and just started and drove away...adblue range had gone to max (9500 km). no problems :)

My T6 Van shows the Adblue as 4500 miles to go. I know this is not correct, it just seems stuck on this reading, the gauge sensor must be poor. I suppose it will flash up a warning soon, telling me to get it filled.
Love the van, but this is a crap system and is causing no end of grief for a lot of us.
Disappointing indeed.

I noticed on mine that the mileage is only an estimate. If you drive carefully, the mileage goes down disproportionally slowly.

Had it Back after another trip to the dealer and 400 miles later the light comes on a again.
Total Joke! The most unreliable brand new van I have had.
I will not be buying another VW

Our van just been in for service and no changes to adblue system made.
I do my own adblue top ups using adbue from Halfords an so far no problems. Just wait for adblue warning then top up with full container and reset according to instructions.

So the new transporter I have or 15 months old has been back with the dealer SIX times now with ad blue error.
Just a recap...
First time the updated the software...
Second time they had to get the factory to dial in and update parameters
Third time they changed a sensor
Fourth time they change the ad blue tank
Fifth time they changed the ECU
And now after about two weeks since the ECU was changed the ad blue error came on.

The van is still under warranty, thankfully. Wondering what me rights are if I ask for a replacement van.
Clearly there is an issue with the transporter and the ad blue system.

Just really frustrating when they can't seem to fix it.

I have heard tales of Adblue tanks being topped off with just water when drivers have been desperate. I guess to stop a vehicle being stranded it would work. Not sure of longer term consequences, injector & pump corrosion etc... This was from a colleague who was an agency HGV driver and didn't have a way to claim expenses and wasn't going to buy Adblue from his own pocket, so topped up with water !

AdBlue as we buy it is about 67% de-mineralised water, so I guess a minor dilution might be OK.

Pretty sure there's a quality sensor in the tank somewhere for exactly this reason, you can't fool it with water.

Reducing agent quality sensor: urea concentration: X%
Reducing agent quality sensor: raw temperature value: X°C
