AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Yeah, I reckon the quality sensor would throw a wobbly as it would be too dilute.

Incidentally, used AdBlue to wash the front of Mrs Spaghetti’s car the other day.

Grabbed what I thought was a 5L container of water to rinse off some bird sh*t and ended up rinsing it off with p*ss! How ironic.

Had to wash the entire front of the car to make sure none was lingering! :D

While I was driving home a couple of weeks ago, from Harrogate I think, there was a sign hung over a fence that said drop into VW for a cuppa and we'll fill your ad blue!
Not seen it anywhere else and I'm down to 750m now so had anyone seen this? Is it a thing with all VW dealers?

Not seen it myself, but I guess it’s a cheap way of getting potential customers through the door to try and sell them something.

A friend of girlfriends had an adblue mishap recently. He was out driving and a drum was rattling round in the back of his pickup, he'd also been on the phone sorting issues with work and was stressed, stopped after his call as the drum had been getting on his nerves. He tipped the contents into the fuel tank, set off and the pickup started to shudder and run erratic

He stopped immediately then realised the drum had contained adblue, called Mercedes who got the vehicle collected and into the workshop. Should be receiving vehicle back minus a bill for just under 8k. It was a 3 month old 350 x class :(

A lapse in concentration and expensive lesson learnt

I filled mine today. No issues. She starts. 5000mile range. Awesome.
Ready for another trip out this weekend.

I joined the adblue issue club this morning. Topped up about 8wks ago no issues. Range was 4500miles this morning then the dreaded adblue fault with range dipping to 650. Continued driving and it then went back to 4500miles.
Called out vw assist who couldn’t find a fault and recalibrated sensor. The tech suggested that I had over filled but having quickly been out back in his box he suggested that the B14s could be to blame as they make the ride harsher!!!
Warranty runs out in a couple of months, not happy!

Just to update this, van had EGR flush in Dec 18, Feb 19, June 19, September 19 and just had VW assist out after the light came back on whilst being away in France.

Read the codes with Carista and it’s the same as on all the other occasions. Dealer booked up till February for diagnostics (Lookers Carlisle) so going to try Hadwins Lindale. If VW don’t want to replace the EGR then they can keep the van.

Thanks chaps. I didn't see this type of message for its first top-up. Maybe I was eager due to the novelty. I think the exclamation mark threw me a little too, not very VW!

Any ideas what this means, other than a regular fill up? Adblue (Def)!

Sorry a bit off topic... but you can change your km/h readout on the cluster to something more useful as well like outside temperature if you want to... I just did mine, but needed carista to do it...

Emmissions Lamp came on last weekend whilst on a run out to the coast. I had done a few short journeys over the Christmas period so assumed it would clear itself. There were no symptoms of any issues other than the light. No loss in power, increase in consumption etc. I had re-filled the ad-blue a month or so ago when I put a 10l drum in as requested on the dash, I think I had ran it down to 1,000 miles or so and it wanted 9-11 litres. Did the 30--sec waiting trick and the re-fill was registered as normal.

The light didn't clear itself and I ended up ringing VW Roadside Assist on the Sunday morning to come and read the fault code at home.

The code was P20EE which apparently relates to the ad-blue software and would have to go to the dealers for update.

The van was booked in for Monday lunchtime at Cleckheaton who gave me a courtesy van to get me home. I picked the van up the following day, though it was ready before close the same day.

I now have a stamp for free ad-blue filling for the next 8 refills.

I had read about the potential software issue before purchasing and it didn't really put me off. Got to say it was a fairly hassle-free experience.

2019, 102hp, 6k miles.
