Over the past year, I found that the capacity of the existing battery was inadequate for a couple of nights off-grid. Having seen a 160 on the Roamer stand at the NEC show fitted into a T6.1 seat base, I went for it as it looked like it would fit underneath my passenger seat (pictured below) with minimal reconfiguration. In case you’re wondering, I’m now planning to fit the Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger and Ablemail AMT12-2 maintainer to under the driver’s seat. Can I ask why you chose the 160 ?
@Skyliner33Been looking through this thread and I just noticed something.
All the photos of the under seat setup show the battery in situ with the terminals towards the front of the seat base.
This got me wondering if there is any reason for that? It seems to me that there would be more space for the connections etc if the battery was placed terminals to the rear.
Also are people just sitting it on the rubber / carpet mat or making a support?
Thanks, unfortunately I dont think any will fit the under seat batteries.@Skyliner33

Interested to know how you get on with the Roamer install. Waiting for mine to be delivered, seats and carpet are out. I can say for sure it is going to be extremely tight, if at all possible. I have found it difficult to get an exact measurement, the cardboard mock up of the Roamer I have made is slightly oversized so not a great comparison. The seatbase reduces in height as it goes from back to front. The Roamer is also reduced height at the front where the terminals are, maybe that is the reason they are positioned in the way you mention. I have also Sportscraft swivels to fit (LB version with the nut facing up). I didn’t realise however that these swivels also have plate welded onto the underside which will further eat into the available space for the Roamer. I am thinking that the seatbase may have to be raised to compensate..Been looking through this thread and I just noticed something.

There are quit3 a few people on here with the Roamer battery under the from seats. In fact I think there is a whole thread about them somewhere. It’s just the ‘Earth’ stud they need removing.Interested to know how you get on with the Roamer install. Waiting for mine to be delivered, seats and carpet are out. Thanks. I bought a Blue Sea MRBF fuse, I’m now thinking there won’t be enough space to fit that. Damn. Regarding the stud, does it all have to come off, or can it be shortened and still used. The batterys sit up slightly at the front.
So you have the terminals at the front so they is more space. Due to the profile of the battery. But it's still tight once you add some 25-70mm2 cables and battery covers.
You need to remove and grind off the chassis stud under the floor mat.
You could cut the mat out, but the battery won't sit any lower due to the seat bar spacers.
No extras brackets needed as they are a tight fit.... But a webbing strap is good practice.
The fogstar comes with some nice small L brackets for each corner, but thats no good in the seat base, as they is nowhere to screw them to.
If you've got the MRBF fuse then you're right, it won't fit directly onto the terminal. I made a short busbar out of some solid copper bar which has done me fine. It's literally some thick copper bar, cut to size with 2 appropriately sized holes drilled.Thanks. I bought a Blue Sea MRBF fuse, I’m now thinking there won’t be enough space to fit that. Damn. Thinking about it I bet there isn’t room to put cables to the stud. Need to find another place for the chassis connection.
Good idea. Got any copper spareIf you've got the MRBF fuse then you're right, it won't fit directly onto the terminal. I made a short busbar out of some solid copper bar which has done me fine. It's literally some thick copper bar, cut to size with 2 appropriately sized holes drilled.
