New Transporter - first official pic

WIll it get to 5 years? With the constant stream of Wet Belts snapping wrecking engines might be lucky to get to 2 years.

But don't forget vehicle manufacturers are all complaining their vehicles (non battery) are lasting too long.

£500 a month for a Transit?! I haven’t leased for about 10 years, but you used to be able to get a Q7 for that money, I had a Touareg R-Line for £365 a month.
I had zoomed in on @ChrisBell ’s pics to look at the exposed electricals.

As I scrolled down and looked at the van it seems the small print under £500 says Upgrade Saving with maybe a couple of even smaller **!!

I shall be keeping my T6 campervan indefinitely; first because of the vast expense of any replacement, but also because the new T7 Transporter is far too big for my requirements.
Big? I mean WIDE, of course. Mine is 1.90 wide (excluding mirrors). That means I can park it, but also take it down narrow country lanes - that's what I have a campervan for!
At 2.05m without mirrors, (I think it's 2.25 or so including mirrors), the new Trannysporter is as wide as a Ducato, so for me, it's never going to be an option.

I'll be keeping my 6.1 for 15 or 20 years simply because I can't afford to drop 50 large or more on a van every five minutes. Being realistic, at my age it could well see me out.

As for the issue at hand, it'll be interesting to see pricing, because if they try to slap too much "VW tax" on the thing it'll be a strange proposition. Where's the logic in paying more for something that is structurally and mechanically the same product even to the extent they are assembled by the same folk with parts from the same suppliers and drop off the same line? The styling and trim would gave to be very special indeed to justify much of a price differential.

I get the impression that the VW/Ford tie-up is very much a loveless marriage of convenience agreed by Top Brass, probably against the wishes of their troops.
So, you have the new Transit Connect, which is basically a VW Caddy. Ford loves it so much they bring out the Courier, very close in size and shape, and push that hard instead.
Meanwhile VW 'borrows'the Transit Custom for its T7 commercial - but puts more effort into it's own Multivan, which it brings out first - AND uses that for its new California. That says to me that their heart is with the Multivan, not the Transit clone.

Are the headlights lower into the bonnet than the transit? Not that it makes any difference I just don’t like it.

It looks alright as it goes, but that high waistline gives away the Transit DNA.

I like the body cladding. All conversions will end up as swamper because it'll be difficult to make a sporting looking version with that all over it.

Looks ok to me. Looks just like a van. Not sure about the body coloured grille though as that will be a stone chip magnet.

Won’t be long before all manner of accessories are available for it (especially given the massive quantities that will be on the road) so people can make it look how they like.

For me it will mainly be down to how well it’s built and how reliable it is, but having not sat in, or driven, one that will have to wait. Given the generally poor reliability of the Transporter it’s not got a high bar to reach!

Absolutely hideous, and a right VW mess up. I know the original shape has been around since the T5, but they've got it right everytime with the 5.1/6/6.1 modifications. Not a fan of this model at all.

Mind you, I hated the id buzz, and the multivan. I'd own a multivan, but not the buzz......

And don't get me started on Tesla, they're a whole different level of hate!

I known I'm repeating myself, but those tapering side windows just scream Ford - there's subliminal dissonance between the body styling and the badge. :(
I agree, it's going to be weird seeing these broken down every 10 mile on the motorway.

I'm also hoping the security is spruced up for this, as the ford's can be opened just by staring to hard at the lock it seems.

I also hope they've sorted the engine issue, as ford suffer from oil starvation, turning right. Something to do with the oil breather in sump. Bad design

I also hate that they've fitted the reversing camera bang center of the door like ford too

The good news is common parts will be available from the Ford dealer for a fraction of the VW price, and they'll probably be in stock.

Couldn't care less about the security setup on them TBH - it won't be impacting me (except, perhaps, via ever-increasing insurance premiums ).
