VW closes T6.1 order book today (3/3/23) !!!! - T7 Next? or T8?

A guy turned up to site today in a new Transit Custom.
I asked him how he found it.
He said it was the best van he had ever had, and was super comfy, and a great drive.
I went on to ask if he had any issues with it, and then he started.
Lots of electrical glitches, and been back and forth to the dealers several times. Wiper stalk failed, and a six week wait for that.
Then, the best one. He had his oil light come up, and when checked his oil was low. Topped it up, only for it to come back on soon after.
Back into Fords, and they told him normal consumption for this engine is 1ltr every 2000 miles.
I have another friend with one, who came out of an old shaped Custom, which he loved. Its been nothing but agro, with more time at the dealers than with him.
Not a good look based on those two examples.
I just watched a video of panel gaps and other issues on a brand new van, and it looked pretty awful.

You know that 1ltr of oil you got with your T6 when it was new? I just put in the other half of it last month just before the service. Apart from the oil it gets on a service, my van has used 1ltr extra of oil in 63k.

Did you know the new Ford Explorer EV shares the same platform as the VW ID.4/5. Two massive companies on their arse's, one for telling lies, the other for churning out a rubbish product for the last 20 years. You decide which is which.

It's quite ironic that in 1948 the entire VW company was offered to Ford for free, and they turned it down.

Hopefully I won’t be changing my van for quite a while but if I was I think I’d be looking at a Vito now.
Yes, me too. I have looked as I like them, and they seem to be the best of a poor bunch.
But, there is no payload !
Totally useless for our needs.

Mine does use some oil.
Always has.
I check it 2-3000 miles and add a cup full normally.
I can`t see how 1 litre every 2000 miles could be normal for any new vehicle ?

I would consider it a problem if, every 6 months when I used to get the T4 serviced, the oil level was significantly low.
Some years I'd be doing about 10 or 12k miles. Putting in 5 or 6 litres a year would be ridiculous.
Could it be because the 'wet belt' sploshes oil around the engine bay?

If a belt is sploshing oil around the engine bay youve got a serious problem.

I have been driving the new transit for a week now as the buzz has gone into the body shop.
Last diesel van I drove was my t6 140 manual one year ago.
It’s the 110 bhp but is very sluggish and engine make a lot of clatter under load.
The screen and software is as bad as the Vw buzz .
To turn off speed warning it need 6 presses of the screen and 3 to turn off stop start every time you start the engine.
Steering is great better turn in than the buzz and t6 so hopefully the Vw will keep that.
If you want to look at built quality just open the fuel filler flap and look at the hinges that’s all you need to see.
The led light are the same design as the buzz and work well.
I have covered 400 mile motorway and B road and cannot get better than 39 mpg keeping well in the speed limit.
I think t6 owner will be disappointed.Lets hope Vw refine it as I wouldn’t want to go on holiday camping in one.

VW have altered the steering ratio and suspension rates to give the Transporter a different feel to the Transit, so if you like the Transit steering you might not like the way VW have set up their version.

As a comparison I got 44mph out of the last tank of my 110 T6.1 driving to the speed limit, and thats with 300kg of camper conversion aboard.

Probably about the same cost of problems of burning a litre of oil per 1000 miles
Maybe, seeing as though reliability is at the discretion of bean counters in every manufacturer, the better metric would be which one has the cheaper engine replacement? :fast rofl:
