Don't hold your breath!!!Are the ford dealers any better than vw for customer care??
Don't hold your breath!!!Are the ford dealers any better than vw for customer care??
In my experience over the years, having owned several (in fact many) of both brands, customer service is the same in terms of human interaction. VW have better free drinks. Ford break far fewer parts when ‘servicing’ your car or renewing brakes etc.Don't hold your breath!!!
Agree it will be interesting. It will be interesting to see ( when the VW version is on sale ) how the two vehicles stack up against each other price wise. Say the VW you want is a grand more, how many current VW owners will be willing to pay the extra, given they are now pretty much identical.
Well, yes, that's exactly what it is. A Transit with a VW badge. Why would anyone pay a premium? or wait 18 months extra to order one?I don’t think of the vw/ford link up in the same way as the vag group cars. It used to be that Skoda/seat used older vw/audi kit in their cars as the tech was handed down, I don’t think it’s quite the same these days so I think these brands are even closer these days. The new transporter will probably be just a ford with a vw badge and a vw infotainment system
Plenty of folk paid a premium for a Renault pick up truck with a Merdedes badge on it.Well, yes, that's exactly what it is. A Transit with a VW badge. Why would anyone pay a premium? or wait 18 months extra to order one?
My experience of platform sharing was the other way round.Plenty of folk paid a premium for a Renault pick up truck with a Merdedes badge on it.
I can recall BITD people would actually pay more for the Toyota Aygo over the Citroën C1 or Peugeot 107 because it was perceived Toyota was a more reliable brand, despite all three plopping off the same produdtion line. The irony there is that the restyling job Toyota did made them prone to horrible cabin water leaks that could affect the electrics so were actually rather less reliable than it's sisters, but that didn't stop folk continuing to buy them for the name.
So sensible folk such as you or I wouldn't pay a premium (and doubtless higher insurance too) for the same vehicle with a minor restyle job but there are plenty of folk out there who gladly will and VW are happy to relieve them of their cash.
TBF though, the VW-badged version will probably be easier to move on for the exact same reasons. So sensible folk such as you or I wouldn't pay a premium (and doubtless higher insurance too) for the same vehicle with a minor restyle job but there are plenty of folk out there who gladly will and VW are happy to relieve them of their cash.
Guess what my van is being 'treated to' at next service! Always something!Ford revises timing belt service interval for diesel vans
Ford has changed the official replacement interval for the 'wet belt' timing belt fitted to some of its diesel vans.www.fleetnews.co.uk
Well it was kind of inevitable at some stage I suppose!!

I had mine done at Listers Van Centre last year for £790 including water pump, VAT and 2 year warranty.Guess what my van is being 'treated to' at next service! Always something!
Edit. Van going in on Monday where they will advise. 2018 with 55000 miles. For the belt to be changed is £1500+vat. Decisions decisions....
I'm sure you are correct on that! That's not just platform sharing - they're coming off the same line with 98% common parts. They are the same vehicle, with different cosmetic accoutrements attached in batches.
A later partner from the same model years as your Berlingo would have been much the same. Both had suffered from cost control and ever tighter emissions regs as time progressed. My Brother arranged the finance for the production line where they're made.
That sounds more like it @PlanB heard that it was advisable to do the water pump at same time! Still cheaper than an engine!I had mine done at Listers Van Centre last year for £790 including water pump, VAT and 2 year warranty.
That’s when some folk will stick a VW grille and badges on their Transits (we see the same sort of thing already with people sticking new front ends on their transporters to make it look like a newer version).TBF though, the VW-badged version will probably be easier to move on for the exact same reasons.
My 19 plate was done at 65,000 miles, then a month later VW moves it to 120k or whatever? That sounds more like it @PlanB heard that it was advisable to do the water pump at same time! Still cheaper than an engine!
