@Dellmassive`s T6 T32 Sportline 204 LWB DSG PV MY18 - Van Adventure

UPDATE:

bit of a action today. .

apparently they cant do the oil test program as the Ghost Imob is stopping or blocking the ECU something or other,

so after a mad dash to site, then ripping out panels and removing the Ghost. . . . .

i go see the advisor to tell them the Ghost is off....

then they tell me, no it ok, weve done the initial test. . . (oil weigh and scan)

now you need to go drive 620miles.

but when you bring it back, please have the Ghost removed. .

oh well. suppose it had to come off at some point.

so I've got the van back. - now need to put some millage on it.

maybe 4-6weeks i recon.

Update:

oil usage test is under way.

second oil dip check. . . 79736miles - 200miles into the test.

(looks like we have already dropped 1/4 of the dipstick)

3rd test comming soon. . . . we almost at 400mile mark.

Edit third dip. 320 mile

Following this with interest, when they did mine the oil level was above the full mark. You look like you may scrape past the 620 with your current readings

i think ill smash it. . . its 0.5L, so half the dipstick for the 620miles (1000km) for a fail.

im doing about 100 miles per day atm. . so they are clocking up quick.

Third dip test.. 320 miles in

About a third down already.

4th dip test .. 442 miles in.

Looks like half way, ie 0.5l already. So that's a fail IMHO.

And just for the record...

The engine is bone dry..

UPDATE:

van is back with the dealers. . . after doing the required 670 odd miles.

1725382744438.png

and booked in for the oil re-test. . . .

they have loaned me a lovely T6.1 manual for the time being.

1725382803062.png

the following morning. . . the vans in the mechanics bay.

1725382865735.png

.

an hour later i get the call from the Service Manger.

"Tech confirms out of spec for oil loss." - ie its loosing oil internally more that what the max allowable for that engine.

"And that dmf is rattling"

Next step... they need to speak with VWCV warranty dept. to see additional tests are needed.

Possibly Compression test.

Possibly remove head. Cylinder measurement.

basically whatever they ask for as evidence and proof that this engine qualifies.

.

RIP - 2018 CXEB 204PS BiTurbo engine. - we had a great time while it lasted.

+++++

what would have happened if i didn't do anything about the oil loss as quick as i did?

well, if you keep toping up the engine with oil. . . . . . .

what would happen is the engine burns it and it goes out the exhaust as sticky oily sludge, that get caught by the DPF. ( so you wont see it at the tail pipe)
that gets to the turbo and the DPF,
the DPF starts to clog quickly,
so the van does ever increasing regens in an attempt to burn off the oil,
the fuel usage increases,
the cylinder/s start to coke up with carbon,
the diesel injector/s start to clog with deposits - causing misfires
the cylinder bore wear starts to cause low compression,
eventually the DPF become too clogged for the regens and the regens STOP.
the DPF will now clog up rapidly causing increased back pressure,
the increase back pressure puts extra strain on the turbo and turbo bearings,
which will lead to turbo failure.
then . . .
at that point you will need, a new Engine/Turbo/DPF/CAT and all the supporting stuff.

UPDATE:

just had a call from the garage.

they need me to sign off on the diagnostics to proceed with further inspection.

basically if VW say No, there is nothing wrong with the engine then i have to pay for the diagnostic time.

the rough quote for the time so far was £500.

++++++

well I'm 100% confident that this engine is loosing a LOT of oil internally.

and that its either from the block cylinder bores,

or from the Bi- Turbo bearings.

my money is on the cylinder bores.

so £500 odd for diagnostics for a possible £12-20k worth of engine work is fine by me.

+++++

BTW - if VW agree the engine is knackerd, then they cover the diagnostics fee as part of the repair - so not actual cost to us.

.

hopefully they will get it back on the ramp tomorrow,

update:

looking like new engine will be authorised from ALL-IN warranty.

oil test failed - using more than the 0.5L

compression test failed @ 15bar on all four pots. (new engine 25-35bar, wear min limit 18bar)

++++

i think this may be what we will get. . . with all the original accessories being refitted.

I was so hoping for this in your T6 when I first glanced at the screenshot!!!

Update:

well no update, . . .

Warrenty office say new engine + associated parts and DMF have been signed off. - so any delay is down to the garage. (on 12th sept)

The Garage say - we need to inspect the ECU to make sure its not been mapped. before they get the sign off?

so im thinking the garage is super busy and im getting the delay tactic.

its been in with them since 3rd sept 24,

and this journey started on the 13th Aug 23.

lets nope they get it back on the ramp soon.

at least we have a new T6.1 to use whilst ours is with them. . . . .

so if anyone was wondering if the ALL-IN warranty cover is worth it? - its a no brainer. for both vans.

++++++++

UPDATE:

garage now says Engine plus associated parts + DPF + CAT + Oxygen sensor are all approved. - yay !

and are on order . . . . but some of the parts are on back order with no available ETA.

+++

The DMF is still questionable, as warranty office say its a VW parts problem as only fitted 12mnths ago.

and the garage need to claim from the VW PARTS office,

so they say will check again. . . that its out of spec, to then be able to claim for the new replacement.

if not it will be refitted on the new engine.

well have to wait and see.

i know its rattling,

and the VW Silver van guy also noticed it rattling. . . . and noted it on the sheet.

and i gave the garage a video clip of it rattling when cold.

fingers crossed.

+++

as for the Turbo, I've had some prices . . . and its damn expensive. - £3k expensive, and that just the parts.

++++

I called TPS for a quote, . . .

this is the Bi-Turbo, plus required pipe, plate, seal and bolts (due to the revised part) (retail prices)

well they call it "Exhaust Manifold with turbo charger" - so assuming its just that - the whole assembly.

++++

interestingly they also said that its available in its split form, so upper high pressure turbine and lower low pressure turbine.

but ours called for the whole assembly.

++++

1729348121043.png
.

so £2857 for those few parts

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

and this is the list from the VW garage. which shows the Turbo and bits above. . . plus other bits and bobs the VW OEM book calls for to be replaced,

1729348060172.png

and that totals a cool £2953 of your Great British Pounds. (retail prices)

Jeez.

why so expensive?

++++++++++++++++

anyway that's just parts alone. . . no labour for fitting.

as the engine will be out, and the existing turbo need removing and refitting,

I've asked them to remove the old and keep,

then refit the new.

that will get be me back my 80K miles turbo that's fine . . . we have some plans for that.

++++++++++++++++

time to raid the piggy bank.

Update.....

Looks like the van has come back to life.

The dashcam, wifi, tracker, Victron and leisure battery have sprang into life.

So that must mean the battery is back in with a charger.

It's in the garage.... So assuming we are having engine work done?.

.
Screenshot_20241110_092932.jpg

.

And then two days later, it's out on a drive and now in a carpark.

Still haven't heard from the garage, so hoping for a call on Monday?
